* Can't open FH
Can't open FH
This problem has arrived out of the blue.
Win 8.1, current updates. No other problems at this point.
Not able to download from update to try an upgrade install.
Malwarebytes is blocking download site as dangerous. ???
Should I try a new installation, in which case what file do I download?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Can't open FH
I presume you were using the FH Help > Check for Updates option and then the Upgrade Now button.
If not that option, then what were you using?
However, your original posting in April 2019 Media image placement in Summary reports (16750) said you are already running FH V6.2.7 which is the latest, so no later upgrade is available.
If Malwarebytes is blocking the FH download site, then presumably nothing was downloaded, and nothing got installed?
So FH should still run as it did before.
The latest free download is available at https://www.family-historian.co.uk/down ... ee-upgrade.
So if it is running then close FH, download that file, and run that file to install latest version.
But as I said above, you already appear to have the latest version installed, so no upgrade is needed.
However, if Malwarebytes is blocking that download site, then you may have to temporarily suspend it, or add the FH web site to a white list or exclusion list within Malwarebytes.

Re: Can't open FH
I have now resolved not being able to download updated versions.
That is not the main issue.
I was not clear I guess about my problem.
Yes, I definitely have the latest version installed.
Family Historian will not open, returning the errors shown in my post.
I cannot get past these error messages, so I am duly reporting to the author as requested.
Possibly this refers to another problem, but I have to start somewhere.
Hope that I have been a bit clearer this time.
I can now re-install, but will this make any difference?

Let us know what Calico Pie say once you've reported the problem?

Re: Can't open FH
It does annoy me when posters say they resolved a problem, but don't explain how
How do you invoke FH? Click a shortcut icon, double-click a Project or GEDCOM file, or what?
Are you saying that as soon as you invoke FH you immediately get both error messages you have shown?
If not, then what exactly happens?
Are there any clues as to what is reporting those errors?
How is Malwarebytes involved?
Fh.exe is a standard executable so unpacking program and code LP6 make no sense.
Are you using how_to:about#problem_reporting|> Problem Reporting to report to Calico Pie?
Reinstalling the FH V6.2.7 download should do no harm and may fix the problem.

Re: Can't open FH
A search here for LP6 provides
Error when opening program (13152)
This was being caused by the Rapport software.
The unpacking error is almost always 3rd party AV or other security software.
Family Historian downloads are directed from Amazon storage so I don't know why Malware Bytes should object to the file. It's not quite clear from the original post if it's Malware Bytes stopping the download or the opening of the program.

Thank you Jane, I am aware of this, and will go to problem reporting to Calico to follow up.

Re: Can't open FH
Jane, it is not clear from that thread that Trusteer Rapport was to blame. The OP never replied with the solution.
If it is an Anti-Virus problem, perhaps caused by Malwarebytes, then there is little Calico Pie can do about it.
The easiest solution is to add the fh.exe program path to the Anti-Virus list of exceptions to exclude from scanning.

Re: Can't open FH
There is nothing which Calico can do if it's a 3rd party program which is causing the error. If malware bytes is giving a false positive the best thing is to report it direct to them.

Re: Can't open FH
I would add to the comments made the fact that the 'problem' should be reported by the end user to the Antivirus Company concerned if there is any interest in getting this issue addressed. Anti-Virus/Malware developers rarely show any interest in the fact that they are causing other software companies problems; and only show interest if they are causing their own end users problems in accessing legitimate files and therefore risk losing those 'customers'.
Edit: Jane beat me to that fact.

P.S The best thing to do with Rapport is to not install it EVER

I'm with Jane on that -- Rapport it causes more problems that it's worth.

Re: Can't open FH
Have to say I used Trustier Rapport for years with no problems at all. RBS recommended it and offered it as a free download, but in the last year they sent an email out notifying me they were stopping using it and that I should Uninstall it. The reason given was that it gave no benefit now due to all of the other security they have.

Re: Can't open FH
After a Windows 10 update, I got the same error. I've never installed the above mentioned "Trusteer report". I have written to the seller and am waiting for their answer.
Any other suggestions ?
Kind regards from Antwerp.

Re: Can't open FH
Wilfried, exactly what error are you getting as the original posting was a problem with Malwarebytes not Trusteer.
Please attach a screenshot of the error (see info:forums#posting_topics|> Posting Topics for advice).
If we know exactly what anti-virus product is causing the problem then we can suggest solutions.
It is usually possible to set exceptions for FH, but the details vary from product to product.
There is no point reporting to Calico Pie as they cannot fix the problem.
You need to contact the anti-virus product developers, but they may take a long time to fix anything.
