Problems with opening projects

Post by AndrewEllis » 29 Sep 2019 19:38

In the confusion over migrating files back from OneDrive, Family Historian no longer recognises where I have stored my local files on the hard drive. I have a default file setting of "Documents/Family Historian Proects/" in my Documents library, but rescanning this folder isnt giving my projects list.
Each project is there within its own project folder, but rescanning doesn't do anything. Resetting to default locations gives me a warning message saying "you have specified a folder location that appears to be within another folder" and even ignoring this doesn't solve the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to sort this out please?

Many thanks

Andrew

I assume you reset to default location in the FH Project Window using More Tasks > Project List > Reset Location to Installation Default. This should work if you simply copied the entire Family Historian Projects folder from OneDrive into Documents, but it sounds as if you have created an extra level of folders.

In the Project window try More Tasks > Browse for Project and find your projects that way. If you still have problems, please post a screenshot of the exact filepath of your projects.

The key requirement is that the FH File > Projects Window > Location path MUST exactly match the path of your ...\Documents\Family Historian Projects folder where you keep your Projects.

If you have chosen the OneDrive settings option to Back up your Important PC Folders then the path will be like:
C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\Documents\Family Historian Projects
rather than the default:
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Family Historian Projects

As Lorna suggests, please post a screenshot of Windows File Explorer showing your Family Historian Projects folder structure similar to how_to:v4:understanding_projects#project_structure|> Project Structure.
