Narrative report not all pictures/media appear in report

Post by RBH425 » 28 Dec 2018 01:04

Hi All, I have a narrative report that is over 1,600 pages. The media/pictures appear with descendants, but not their children - and it is not always consistent. Sometimes the picture is with the child, sometimes not. It doesn't matter if the picture is linked as media or fact. I have tried both. I have searched & read various postings and made some adjustments, but nothing is working. I have the max pics set at 500, in rows above text left-aligned. The boxes for facts & places are checked for other picture types.
This is not a consistent thing, sometimes the picture appears and sometimes it does not. All pictures are jpgs.
The pictures that are missing are usually of people who have not married and do not have any children. So, he/she is only listed under the parents and the picture should appear here.
I have discovered that if the media/picture is linked through the media function, this creates a + sign and a new listing for the descendant.
If the media picture is linked as a fact, the picture remains with the descendant under the parent.
Sorry if this is confusing, I am trying to get all of the pictures to appear in the narrative report.
When I print a narrative report of just the one descendant, the picture appears in the report. The picture does not appear in the descendant narrative report.
Thank you, Robin

This question is related to the issues you raised in these two previous topics:

Narrative Report - children w/ no descendants (14392)
and
Narrative Report - facts help (14425)

If you select the Report > Options > Main > One Section Per Descendant option each person will have a section of their own and pictures should be displayed in that section as expected. However it appears from your ealier topics that when a descendant has few facts recorded you prefer to keep all their details next to their parents in the report. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be compatible with displaying all pictures linked in any way to the individual.

I suggest you raise this issue with the developers, Calico Pie, as explained here: how_to:about#problem_reporting|> Problem Reporting

Thank you Lorna, but the weird part is that sometimes the picture appears and sometimes it does not. I cannot seem to find a consistent reason why or why not.

Robin, in your first post you said
I have discovered that if the media/picture is linked through the media function, this creates a + sign and a new listing for the descendant.
If the media picture is linked as a fact, the picture remains with the descendant under the parent.
I think you mean that if the picture is linked directly to the individual (the individual's whole record, as opposed to a fact) this creates the + sign and a separate section for the descendant, where the picture is displayed. This is consistent with the information in the Help files:
Help info for descendants narrative.JPG
Help info for descendants narrative.JPG (58.56 KiB) Viewed 2830 times
In the second sentence, do you mean that if the picture is linked only to a fact it is displayed with the details near the parents, if the individual does not have their own section in the report? If they do have their own section, is the picture displayed in their own section?

You said that
The pictures that are missing are usually of people who have not married and do not have any children. So, he/she is only listed under the parents and the picture should appear here.

Are these missing pictures linked to the individual or linked to facts?
And you say they are usually pictures of people who are only listed under their parents. If they are not always cases like this, can you give details of a different case?
Lorna
