I've some census screenshots and also a digital image of a family gravestone with multiple individial names that I'd like to add to FH6.
Each includes several members of the family.
I was planning to add as a media item to each individual's entry in FH6 but wondered if that's the recommended and most space efficient way. For example would it be stored as one file or multiple identical files in the project database?
I'd appreciate any guidance on this before I add them.
thanks
S

Just add the media once and then attach the media record where you want.
Try using the media window to attach multiple people to an image, personally I add Gravestone images as source images, but you could add them a media against the Burial Fact if you prefer.
Have you watched how_to:v4:adding_multimedia|> Adding Photographs and Other Multimedia?

Normally only photos of an individual are linked direct to the individual record. For other types of media image the recommended method is to create a Source record for the item, then link the image to the Source record. The image will be stored just once in the database but the source can be cited as many times as you like, for example as evidence for dates of death or place of burial (in the case of the gravestone).
For census images the process can be automated by using the Ancestral Sources program to create all your census entries. See ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources
If you want, additionally, to add an image direct to a fact (e.g. you might want to link the gravestone image direct to a burial fact so that it appears in the main part of a report) you can do this by using the Link to Existing Media Record option, so that there will still be only one copy of the image stored in the project.

The two images you mention would often each be handled via one Source record cited by multiple facts.
As a newcomer study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and its links.
In particular see Sources Methods 1 & 2 and Ancestral Sources.
Also see how_to:index#recording_facts_and_sources|> Recording Facts and Sources.
See especially how_to:recording_census_records|> Recording from a Census Record for Census images.
Burial events citing a Gravestone Source record would follow similar techniques using Ancestral Sources.
