Hi
I'm using latest version of FH.
Yesterday, I spent quite a while putting information into FH.
Then, just before I shut down (why is it always just BEFORE), my graphics card & driver went nuts, pushing the machine into a loop from which it just wouldn't recover.
I shut the machine down without the luxury of a soft landing for FH.
Fortunately, when I booted back up, there didn't appear to be too much wrong, except where I had entered files as Media on specific entries.
These files were no longer listed.
So I decided to go through and re-load them in the appropriate entries.
However, whenever I try, FH comes up with the fact it is going to name <filename> as <filename(2)> to avoid confusion with an existing file.
So I though I'd simply re-link with the file, only to discover that they are not listed at all on the media records page.
(Hope that all makes sense).
I wondered if the problem lies in the DB, where there are still names & pointers to files which, because of the crash, are no longer there.
If so, is there a way of checking the DB for accuracy and continuity errors?
At the moment, the problem is irritating rather than dangerous, but I'm left with the uneasy feeling that there might be something else there which I have yet to encounter.
Any views?

Re: FH Database ??
It sounds to me as if the media records added before the crash are lost but the images to which they were linked are still sitting in the project Media folder. Your notion to add the files again is a good one but try adding the ones which ended up in the media folder rather than the originals which were presumably elsewhere.

Re: FH Database ??
Thanks for that idea, David.
It will be tomorrow before I have time to try it out, but I'll report back as to what happened.

Re: FH Database ??
Oh dear! Am I embarrassed.
I ignored the first law of computing: "When in doubt, reboot."
I have just sat down to boot up the machine and do battle.
In the process I discovered absolutely everything in its rightful place.
The crash appears to have had no effect whatsoever.
I am REALLY sorry to have posted such a load of codswallop.
I shall stick to genealogy in future.
Thanks for your offered help, though, David.
It was very kind.
Best wishes

It would still be a good idea to review at least your Media database.
Run the following two Plugins:
Check for Possible Duplicate Media to check for duplicate Media files &/or duplicate links to Media records.
Check for Unlinked Media to check for Media files without a link to a Media record.
Resolve any unexpected results. If unsure what to do then ask here.
Use Tools > External File Links and check there are not any X marks against any entries.
If not sure how to fix them then ask here.
