Finding records with no flag

Post by paulr1949 » 30 Jan 2018 11:02

Hi all,

I have 8 flags set up for different branches of my tree (not every grandparent because my maternal family line has two grandmothers as my mother's mother died when my mother was 3). I am going through my records to check which entries have a flag set prior to exporting a tree to Ancestry to allow a recently-discovered 4th cousin to access it.
I wondered whether it was possible to find records without a flag set easily with a query, but when I have tried so far, you can only search on one flag. Am I missing something simple?

Thanks in advance

Paul

You can filter by as many flags as you want so, the simplest way is create a new custom Individual Query and

Exclude if "flag 1" set
Exclude if "flag 2" set
etc

When exporting to Ancestry, please review the advice in how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia|> Exporting a Family Tree with/without Media especially in how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia#export_to_website_without_sensitive_data|> Export to Website Without Sensitive Data which has specific advice for Ancestry.

Thank you Jane. I have done that and created my list of results and put them into a new named list. I thought I might be able to then add a flag directly within the named list, but it seems I have to go via the property box and "all", so I shall probably match the named and complete lists side by side and do it that way. Unfortunately, there are rather more unflagged entries than I hoped there would be :|

Thanks Mike, I have already read that advice as I've exported one line of my tree before (it is a private tree and will remain so).

To set a flag, just run the Query and then click the gear wheel top right and select Set Flag from Record Set

or if you want to set the flag via the Named list on selected records, select the records in the list using CTRL or Shift to select more than one and then Edit>Record Flags and tick the flag you want to set. You can also do this process on the Result set from the Query
