A great amount of my file is sourced from:

1 AUTH James Scarborough Sibley
1 TITL Sibley Family in America 1629-1982cc
1 ABBR Sibley Family in America 1629-1982
1 PUBL COPYRIGHT, 1982, Midlothian, Texas;
2 CONT V1 pp 0001-0888, V2 pp 0889-1734
2 CONT Second Edition with data to 1982 - 2 vols.
1 NOTE Source Medium: Book
2 CONT Source Quality: very good
I have been heads down in it for some time.
I have added over 1000 INDis with this as a guide. It has errors, but is more accurate than sources on the net.
Will change a fact type work to do this
When I added a marriage record if there was a divorce I added it right there on the screen.
twistie> divorced. NOTE: Hmmm thats odd, not a standard event as proscribed by the Standard 5.5.
So, when we bandy standards about, we are not really using that word correctly, it is verdantly interpretive.
0 @F5@ FAM
1 DIV
2 DATE ABT 1996
2 PLAC Fergus Falls, , Otter Tail, MN, USA
2 ADDR FergusC!!!!ourtHouse
2 CAUS *****
2 SOUR @S13@
2 NOTE blah blah blah blah
^^^ that is from the drop down Add Event. Brill.
1 DIV Y
1 HUSB @I78@
1 WIFE @I6@
1 CHIL @I76@
1 DIV Y (no idea where thats from and dont care, thats free word processor fix, simple type couple clicks and all of them gone)
1 _STAT Divorced
1 NOTE no date
1 CHAN
2 DATE 22 OCT 2017
3 TIME 14:07:01
^^^^that is from the add a spouse screen.
1 CHAN
2 DATE 22 OCT 2017
3 TIME 14:07:01
Catastrophische!!!!!!
Is there an automated way (perhaps change a fact) to:
1) find 1 _STAT Divorced and change it to 1 DIV
2) if there is a 1 NOTE *GT *BLANK, move it to 2 DATE
3) regardless, where case 1) is found, add 2 SOUR @S43@
Why is all this in a record? the Marriage screen does not see an event and fill in the fields. Bad Gamboo, it should know the EVENT and use that tol fiii in in every case. Burnt again.

Re: Change a fact type
I think it is the Status: box on the Main tab of Property Box that is focus of your posting.
That is associated with the 1 _STAT tag, that is compliant with GEDCOM 5.5 and 5.5.1.
It is a user-defined field with a leading underscore (if imported to another product would probably be a UDF).
See glossary:gedcom_extension_list|> GEDCOM Extension List and GEDCOM 5.5 Page 49 NEW_TAG.
To reliably add Facts (Events/Attributes) you should stick to the Facts tab Add Fact button.
That adds Marriage (MARR) events, Divorce (DIV) events, and all other standard facts.
1 DIV Y is also defined in GEDCOM 5.5 on Page 32 where is says "tags require a Y(es) value on the parent TAG line to assert that the event happened."
A Plugin could be written to automatically convert 1 _STAT Divorced into 1 DIV with 2 SOUR @S43@ but you will have to define the 1 NOTE text format more clearly to move it to 2 DATE as I have no idea what 1 NOTE *GT *BLANK means.

Re: Change a fact type
Think it might be
If NOTE exists
There's no Greater Than symbol on my phone keyboard so that might explain the use of *GT*

Re: Change a fact type
Ron, please try the attached Move Divorce Status to Event Plugin Version 0.1 Date 23 Oct 2017.
Before running the Plugin use File > Backup/Restore > Small Backup just in case!!!
After running the Plugin you can use Edit > Undo Plugin Updates before closing FH to reverse all its changes.
If the Plugin finds a Status: Divorced (1 _STAT Divorced) then it will create a Divorce Event (1 DIV) for that Family record and delete the Status field. It will create a new Divorce Event even if a Divorce Event already exists.
If there also is a record level Note (1 NOTE) for that Family record, it will convert that Note text to a Date (2 DATE) on the new Divorce Event. If the Note text is not recognised as a valid Date format, the text will be added as a "Date Phrase".
There is no progress indication, so just let the Plugin run to completion, which on a very large Project may take a while.
On completion, the Plugin produces a Result Set of every new Divorce Event.
If anything is unsatisfactory, then use Edit > Undo Plugin Updates and let me know what is wrong.
