I recently had to re-install Windows 10 due an a wireless driver issue.
It's been painful to re-set a number of customised settings (i.e. diagram boxes based on individual's flags, etc.)
What I would love to see is the settings for customised columns on the records list saved, by default to the users Document folder instead of the C Drive/Users/AppData folder.
What I experienced is Windows will keep all the personal files on hard drive and remove all the software files - including any customised settings - e.g. this plus customised queries, etc.
It might make it easier if FH saves all the customised settings elsewhere by default to make re-loading your settings easier than it is now.
Thanks.

Re: Saving customised column configurations on records lists
1. You can save your custom columns as a query...
2. ...which you can then backup (along with all other customisations using Mike Tate's Backup and Restore settings plug in) to any location you choose.

Re: Saving customised column configurations on records lists
I have moved this to the FH General Usage Forum because the capability requested already exists in various ways.
As Helen says, custom columns can be saved in a Query as explained in how_to:customising_record_window_columns|> Customise or Print Records Window Columns. That Query can also be saved into your Project using File > Import/Export > Export > Query.
Also, even without saving the Query, the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin will save ALL your customisations and preferences in your backups folder so they they can ALL be restored following re-installation of FH.
See the how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers section on Backup & Recovery for further details regarding various failure modes such as disk crash, PC crash, reinstallation, etc, and recommended backup methods.
Furthermore, there already exists Wish List Ref 460 Localise Settings to Projects that you can Vote for.

I use and recommend Arq which automatically updates a copy of your complete Drive C in the cloud every hour.

Re: Saving customised column configurations on records lists
BTW: Arq Backup is not free.
Trevor, it is not clear how it would work in this case as the Records Window Column settings, like several other FH settings, are held in the Windows Registry and that probably cannot be restored en bloc as it could disrupt Windows 10.
