Notes list view

Post by wellera » 12 Jul 2017 20:50

Hi

I'm struggling to find a way to work out which entity an existing note relates to.

From the listing of notes:

How can I tell which individual the note is attached to?

Thanks

Andrew

Having selected the Note Record, from the Family Historian Menu Bar select 'View' > 'Record Links'

Mervyn's suggestion identifies just the related record, but not exactly where in that record.

So use the Where Used Record Links Plugin from the Plugin Store.
With that you can select any combination of those Note records and the Plugin produces a comprehensive Result Set of exactly where each Note is linked.

However, all your examples are only linked once, so the details might as well be a local Note in the related record.
There is a Clean Up Notes Plugin that will move such single linked Note records into the correct local Note.

Thanks Mervyn & Mike

Both solutions work - especially the plugin It would be great if this became part of the core application in some future upgrade as it is so useful.

In many other applications, a "right click" on a record provides options to view related records, which is very useful.

Mike - do you think it's worth adding this sort of "right click" navigational feature onto the wish list?

Yes, a right-click on a record to view related records sounds useful, but perhaps not as useful as the Plugin.
  1. The Plugin can be refined to add new features without needing a new release of FH itself, and this has happened.
  2. The Plugin allows multiple records to be selected to produce a Result Set of all related links that may not be records, but may be facts, citations, etc.
  3. You can use a keyboard shortcut to run the Plugin that is almost as quick as right-click.
Where Used Record Links is the only Plugin starting with W that you are likely to need.
So use Tools > Plugins > More>>, select the Plugin, and tick Add to Tools Menu.
Then the shortcut to run the Plugin is Alt T W which is only marginally slower than right-click.

Mike

That's an excellent solution - I'd not spotted the option to add a plugin to the tools menu.

Brilliant!

Thanks again

Andrew
