New computer restoring FH

Post by K17 » 24 Jun 2017 04:00

Hoping someone can help please. I have a new computer. The old computer died. I have a back up of FH 7 June 17. I have installed FH [the lastest V6] onto the new computer. How do I import from the back up file to open up my tree?

All I can find is how to transfer files from the old computer to the new. This is not an option. :(

The backup should be a zip file.

Open FH and go to File > Backup / Restore and there select Restore from Backup. Follow the prompts.

You will recover your Project as explained by Colin, but unfortunately, you will have lost all your customisations of Diagrams, Reports, Queries, Facts, Plugins, etc, etc.

In future use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin on a regular basis.

In your first posting Census images how to link correctly to families (13880) you were advised to study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers that among other topics identifies the need to use that Plugin.
