Hi Philip.

In your first posting New User (14911), I advised you study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers starting with the Documentation & Tutorials. In the free Book: "Getting the Most From Family Historian 5" in Chapter 1 Getting Started with the Focus Window on Page 9 it discusses the File Root and how to set it.

Also if you click F1 in the Focus Window to open its Help page and follow the File Root link then it is explained there too. The use of F1 to get Help is mentioned in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers in the Documentation & Tutorials.

May I suggest you follow those leads and you will find your answer.

May I ask exactly where you searched for an answer without success?

I suspect a terminology problem due to the labelling of the "Go To File Root" button as "Home". Searching for "home individual" yields nothing in the help file or the knowledge base, "root individual" shows this terminology being used in report options but no indication how to choose such an individual To find the required information it is necessary to search simply for "root" (or "file root")

To get the best use from FH I would suggest following Mike's advice and in the long run it will save a lot of sometimes fruitless searching (maybe because of terminology). If you still have problems post them on FHUG.

Oh, and the solution is: get the individual you want as file root into the focus window (not necessary for them to be the Focus Individual), select and right-click, you will see "Make File Root" as an option.

BTW: If you hover the cursor on the Home button the popup tooltip says Go To File Root.
Search the Help for "File Root" in quotes and the top topic How to Make Someone the File Root
explains all.
