I am relieved that things are not as bad as you first thought.
At first reading, and not being a TMG aficionado, I have no idea what difference UK v US Place Style makes.

I can't see that the TMG Place Style would have any affect on the import to FH, especially any affect on memo/notes transfer, but if you want to do a bulk Place Style change, I'd suggest you look at John Cardinal's excellent TMG Utility - see http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/download.htm

I think the choice of USA or UK style only adjusts the place and name field labels.

I still dont understand why clicking the little note book icon in FH blanks out the notes and source fields. Possibly because it is an invalid action? It is only an indicator and shouldnt be clicked? But it is disconcerting to a new user.

My own report that I have all my TMG data opening correctly in FH needs to be qualified.

First, I had some time ago, done a trial import, probably with Gedcom, and matched a few custom Tags in TMG to FH Events, and modified the sentences for some Events. It now seems that the alterations I made would be valid for any subsequent import using the direct method.

Secondly I concentrated only on Import of all my data. I have never been a tidy user of genealogy software. My Projects are my research notebooks. I often make hurried notes in archives, use abbreviations for sources and then, when forced to, bundle my data from one Genealogy programme to the next.

Getting the data into FH is fine.

Experimenting with export to Gedsite has shown me a whole new picture when it comes to output. Narrative output of Events and Places that were once in TMG. And when I have time to spare, and have studied the Knowledge base. I will start a new thread.

Yes, the More column Witnesses, Media & Notes icons are just indicators.
Clicking them should do nothing, so the effect you describe should be reported via how_to:about#problem_reporting|> Problem Reporting.

The GedSite narrative format is very similar to the FH Publish > Narrative Reports.
If you use Export Gedcom File Plugin to create GedSite then both narratives use the same style.

I have found a solution to the problem of transferring notes from TMG to FH6, referred to in the discussion above.

I checked all the settings and preferences between the projects; no inconsistencies there. I then ran all the TMG maintenance options on the problem project. Reimported the result as a new project name into FH6. And it worked. Notes transferred.

In Summary. Always carry out the TMG maintenance options before attempting a direct transfer to FH6.
