Children with Place of birth etc

Post by Hanning » 23 Nov 2016 00:45

From my reading I don't think that these are possible - can someone please confirm that it is the case?

I want to see the place of baptism for all the children of an individual -
- not possible in the focus window
- not possible Property Box | Main tab | Children area
- not possible to make Custom tab in the Property box becuase I am wanting to show linked data?

Only possible by creating a query and running it when required?

Thank you in advance

You can see all that information on descendent diagram and you can have the Property Box open for more information. Many people work in diagrams all the time as you can see what ever information you want by configuring the text scheme to show your required information.

There is Wish List Ref 544 Place details for Children in Focus Window you can Vote for.

In the meantime there is a one click solution per child.
Customise the Property Box to show Baptism Date & Place on the Main tab just below Born.
Then from Focus Window click on each Child in turn to see their Property Box details.

Thank you Jane and Mike - Mike I had already customised the Property box as you suggested, but was trying to get a sense of a families movement in a glance and get away from clicking 12 times for those large families! Jane, I have also been trying out the diagrams - I will see if I can have different views as most of the time including that info makes it too unwieldy for me. I will certainly go to the Wish list - thank you for your time.

Another idea is to create a Query as you suggested, and use Window > Tile Horizontally to display Focus Window and Query Window side by side. Then for any family it only takes a handful of clicks to show all the Children for a chosen parent.
You may have to change the Tools > Preferences > Property Box/Workspaces settings so the Property Box floats out of the way.

It would be more work, but a Plugin is even better, because it will automatically identify your chosen parent, and either popup a Window with the Child details, or display a Result Set of them like a Query.
If the Plugin name starts with a unique letter such as C and is added to the Tools menu, then pressing Alt-T and then C will run the Plugin.

If you are interested I have created the attached Quick Child Lookup Plugin Version 0.1 Date 23 Nov 2016.
[Attachment deleted as now in Plugin Store under the title Quick Family Facts.]

Install it in FH and in the Plugins dialogue use More>> and tick Add to Tools Menu as explained in plugins:about|> About Family Historian Plugins, but you are downloading the Plugin from here, NOT the Plugin Store.

Then when you have selected a Parent in the Focus Window press Alt-T and then Q to get a popup display like:

Thank you Mike - that is very useful indeed. I have installed it, learnt about putting Plugins on the tool menu in the process, and am sure that I will use it frequently. Thank you for your time and effort to help on that one.
