Sources from a Family Tree Book

Post by jeremyhills » 13 Oct 2016 13:55

I am lucky enough to have a book recording the family tree of one branch of my tree. I plan to use the automatic source citation facility, but can I record the page number for each separate entry? In other words, the source is always Book 1, but each entry is probably on a different page - how can I record this without having many sources, one for each entry?

Thank you,
Jeremyhills

Firstly you need to be sure the Book is a reputable source, and not just someone else's research that needs to be ratified.

If it needs to be ratified, then use its entries as a guide, and create Source Citations for the original BMD Certificates, Parish, and Census records, etc; just as you would for any other of your data entries. You could also cite the Book against each fact, but going down to Page number may not be so important.

To reference Page numbers within a Source is the purpose of the Citation field Where within Source.
So you have just one Source record but each Citation identifies the Page in Where within Source.
I believe that can be set up in the Automatic Source Citation but you need to remember to keep changing the Page number as necessary.
Alternatively, you can add the Page number to each Where within Source field manually.
