Multimedia--show more images on website
In a previous email, I said that I was only showing two images per individual on my website and asked if that were the maximum or if it could be increased.
'tatewise' kindly responded
'checkout http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... mat_layout in the Knowledge Base, especially the Pictures tab.'
I couldn't find the Pictures tab but his helpful instructions led me to . There, on the third window of the Wizard is 'Individual Summary Report'. Click on . There is the tab. Click and you will see 'Max Pics' which you can adjust to suit your needs.
So easy, when someone helps you.

Multimedia--show more images on website
If you follow the link to Report Content, Media, Format & Layout in the Knowledge Base you should reach the page illustrated below:

Click on the Pictures tab link, and its features are explained.
You can use FH Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD) and set its Report Options in isolation.
This is better than via the Website Wizard because you can immediately see the effects of your changes.
For more advice on the Website Wizard see how to Make a Family Tree CD/DVD or Website.

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
I have this same problem, again...only one photo shows per person.
I have, therefore, done the following:
Publish>create a website>unclick hide all pictures linked to private individuals>next>add all>next>
family group sheets>options>pictures>family enter 55>parents enter 1>children enter 1>children's spouses enter 1>other enter 5>apply>OK
then
individual summary report>options>pictures>family enter 55>parents enter 1>children enter 1>children's spouses enter 1>other enter 5>apply>OK
But I still only get 1 photo per individual, rather than the (up to) 55 which I would have expected and which I obtained before the latest crash.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
Before doing anything else have you created an Installation Archive as advised in Virus threat (14008)?
As I advised before, rather than use the Publish > Website Wizard, use FH Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD) and set its Report > Options in isolation. Similarly for Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD) set its Report > Options. Then use the Publish > Website Wizard, which will use those Options providing it chooses those Report Templates at Step 3.
Simply re-installing FH should have retained those previous Report custom Options that were working before.
But sometimes a re-installation may reset them to Installation Settings.
To protect against such problems, disk/PC crashes, etc, etc, you MUST keep suitable backups.

- Backups of the Family Historian Projects folder that holds your Project database.
- Backups from the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin to preserve all your customisations such as those Report Options.
- Backups of Installation Archive.

The reason I couldn't follow your previous advice on this topic is that when I go to
Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD)
I see a list of families and the only options I have are
Individual or Family or Named Lists [I tried to move all families from the left pane to the right pane (similarly, all individuals) but that didn't do anything to obtain more pictures
I don't see any option to "set its Report > Options in isolation"
Separately, when I do get back to the way I want my website and I am ready to back up, can you give me some ROUGH idea of how much space the backups you suggest would take up on, say, a USB stick? I'm running at about 4000 individuals and, maybe, 6000 photos, when all is said & done.
I'm a septuagenarian and none of this comes naturally to be but I try. I really do try.

Report Options
Sorry, I falsely assumed you knew how to open a Report and get at its Options.
Use Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD) or Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD).
When you get to the list of Individuals or Families there will almost always be one selected in the right-hand Selected Family/Individual Records pane. For this exercise it does not really matter which record is selected.
(If none is selected, then select one on the left-hand pane and click the > button.)
Finally click OK at the bottom to open the Report.
With the Report displayed click the Options button on the right, or use the Report > Report Options command.
Then you can select the Pictures tab and adjust Max Pics.
After you click OK the Report will display any extra pictures available for the selected record.
To double-check, Close the Report, and then open it again with a Family/Individual who has multiple Pictures and ensure they are all displayed.
Repeat for the other type of Report.
Thereafter, the Publish > Website Wizard will use those Options automatically for those Report Template types.
Backup Space
You can determine yourself exactly how much space you need from your PC.
Open Windows/File Explorer by clicking the yellow folder icon usually on the Taskbar across the bottom.
OR hold down the Windows Logo key and press the letter E key.
Navigate to your \Documents\Family Historian Projects folder.
Right-click on that Family Historian Projects folder and choose Properties.
It will tell you the Size on disk of everything in that folder (that works for almost every folder).
If you use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin with default settings, it will usually put its backup within the Family Historian Projects folder, so will be included in the Size on disk.
If you similarly create your Installation Archive folder within the Family Historian Projects folder, then it will be included in the Size on disk.
With that organisation, simply copy the entire Family Historian Projects folder to a suitably large USB stick.

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
Tatewise,
Report options
-------------
I followed your instructions (thanks for putting them in easy-to-follow format) and found that the max number of pictures was already at 55, which is what I wanted but the website was only displaying 1 photo. My next idea was to re-set, back to 1, which I did, and, then, re-set back to 55. I did this both on the Report and on the Wizard.
So Report and Wizard now show 55 max pictures but the published website only shows 1.
I note that when I create the reports, following your instructions (using 55 max pictures), the individual report shows 4 pictures and the family report shows 1 picture. The website, however, only shows 1 picture. To be clear, I'm talking about the FH website wizard, where, at the end, a box pops up saying "Website Created" and I click on the option "View Website" so it is not that the FH website is showing multiple photos and my own personal URL has, somehow, failed to show multiple photos after the transfer process.
[In the interests of full disclosure, I should say that, when creating a FH website, I get an error msg "The recommended max width or height for a logo is 96 pixels. Your picture file is 122 pixels high and 112 wide. Proceed anyway?" I have always received that error msg so I click "OK" and carry on]
If I revert to "default" that might be a place to start again but
a) I don't know how to revert to default, and
b) That would remove my other preferences (which I have built up over the years and I don't know what they are)
You might counter that I should save my preferences off-site but 55 was on the new download so, clearly, that already reflected my saved preferences.
Further suggestions?

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
No, do not revert to Installation Settings because your settings are mostly OK.
It is probably just a simple step that is being overlooked (same as you did not quite know how to open a Report), or a setting that is not quite correct, so let's check step by step.
I assume the Publish > Create a Website > Step 3 - Choose Report Template dialogue has the default settings:
Primary Page Type: Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD)
Secondary Page Type: Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD)
With those settings it is worth identifying what Pictures will be displayed.
For Family couples their web page is based on the Primary Page Type so setting Options > Pictures tab Family to 55 only applies to pictures linked to the Family record. To display multiple pictures linked to the Individual records you must set Parents and Children and Children's Spouses to 55 too!
Only single Individuals with no spouse will use the Secondary Page Type for their web page.
So focus on Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD) and set its Options > Pictures tab Max Pics all to 55. Then check that multiple Family photos at the top, and multiple Individual photos for Husband, Wife and Children lower down are all shown.
Now use the Publish > Create a Website wizard, and when Step 8 finishes choose View Website.
That should display the FH web pages created locally on your PC in your preferred browser.
Check a few web pages for both Family groups and single Individuals to see how many photos are shown.
Note that even though you click on an Individual name in the Index of Names page, if they are one of a Family couple, then a Family Group Sheet is displayed as explained above, and NOT an Individual Summary Report.
If that is successful, then those web pages and the associated picture image files, etc, must all be uploaded to your online web site URL.
Regarding the logo size error message, I suspect at wizard Step 7 - Presentation & Behaviour you have chosen Specify and <<Select for your own logo image file. The Help says "You are recommended to use a small picture, about one inch, or 96 pixels, high". Yours is only a bit larger, so you can safely ignore the error message.
BTW: The custom settings such as Max Pics = 55 are NOT part of the download installation file. They are stored on your PC in the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\ folder, which does usually survive a re-installation of FH. BUT if your disk/PC were to crash, then that folder may be lost or destroyed, so use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin as advised so it gets saved on your USB pen drive.

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
Tatewise,
BINGO!!!!!!
I just ticked 55 for every single box on both the Family Group Sheet and the Individual Summary Report. I figured I could always dial back, if that were a problem.
It seems to be fine on the FH view website--multiple photos showing. I haven't yet uploaded it to my personal URL but that will take a fair amount of time and shouldn't be a problem.
You will see in my 1 Feb 13 post that I meant to write a note to myself, and anyone who viewed the post, on how to do this but I posted the comment without filling in the blanks.
Thank you so much for walking me through this, step by step.
Should you have any interest in viewing my website (and I don't know why you would, other than idle curiosity) contact me offline at marathon01@btinternet.com
Now, could you just tell me where I am to find the "Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin" and how to use that. I'm anxious to get all this backup correct.
Again, thank you for all your help!

I have reviewed the info on plugins
I have downloaded "Backup & Restor FH Settings" plugin
I know how to open & close the plugin
I attach what my "Family Historian Projects" folder looks like in "Documents"
"Backups" contains 2015 backups
"DNA Ancestry" contains a notepad entry of my DNA details
"Archive" contains the keys you suggested I keep
"Sample project" contains sample project & tutorial
"Aides" contains Word docs and pdfs of various documents I have collected, e.g. letters, wills, etc
"Low & Bryan" contains pre-crash backups
"Low & Bryan recovered" contains current info

OK, that all looks satisfactory.
Please tell me two things:
In FH what is shown in Tools > Preferences > Backup tab Default Backup Folder box?
In the Plugin what is shown in Backup Data: in green?
They should start C:\Users\{username}\Documents\Family Historian Projects\ but I need their whole folder path.

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
OK, that is good.
Run the Plugin and select its Options tab.
Click the Choose Backup Folder button and select the Family Historian Projects folder.
On the Backup tab click the large BACKUP ... button.
It should perform the backup process and create a Family Historian folder within your Family Historian Projects folder.
That new folder contains the settings backups and must not be moved or renamed, unless you understand what you are doing.
To restore those settings you run the Plugin and use its Restore tab options.
Whenever you modify any customisations or preferences, then run the Plugin Backup option again, or perhaps just do that say once a month.
Now when you copy your C:\Users\R Low\Documents\Family Historian Projects to a USB memory stick it will include those Plugin backups too.

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
Thank you so much. I'm now all backed up.
For some reason, the folder with the keys came out in a format which couldn't be read but I did a quick little workaround for that.
I hope for no more crashes but, if they come, I am now prepared.
Your idea of a regular backup, via plugin, is a very good one.
Best regards,

The keys are deliberate!y difficult to open, because messing around with them may render them useless or dangerous.
What exactly is your quick little workaround?
I hope you have not disrupted the Backup!

Mike, sorry, I have been offline, for a while.
For the keys, I copied the Word document in the original file and pasted into the backup file.
I hope that is not a problem.
FYI I put the backup into a WD My Book Essential.

Re: Multimedia--show more images on website
The Registry Keys file is NOT a Word document, but a simple plain text file in a very specific Windows Registry format, so it is possible that opening it in Word and pasting it back may well have disrupted it, and if restored via the Plugin might either restore nothing or possibly damage your Windows Registry. Either way it makes the backup unreliable.
I suggest you run the Backup & Restore FH Settings plugin again to reinstate its backup.
I strongly advise that you do NOT meddle with those Plugin Backup files.
I guess you wouldn't meddle with FH Backup files, or AS Backup files, or Windows Backup files.
I also suspect you would not meddle with the FH Project files such as the GEDCOM file.
So leave them all alone apart from copying them to your WD external drive.
