Move order of facts & age calculation
I am running a narrative descendants by generation report and would like to move some facts around. I have the normal - birth, marriage, death.
I also have cause of death and burial.
I would like the cause of death and burial to appear after the death, but cannot seem to figure out how to make this happen. I have searched the forums and help. I unchecked the "enable automatic ordering" under advanced settings. I expected to see the arrow keys highlighted in the facts box, but no such luck.
Also cannot get age of death to calculate. I have verified that the birth date and death date are facts, in the date box, and formatted with the original code.
thank you for all of your help, I'm a former TMG user.

Re: Move order of facts & age calculation
Are Cause of Death and Burial custom events, if so have you checked they have Post Death status, also have you tried reordering out of sequence data?
If you have a custom "Cause of Death" attribute you could move this in to the Cause of Death sub field on the Death event using a plugin

Re: Move order of facts & age calculation
Robin, please clarify which of the facts you mention (Birth, Marriage, Death, Burial, Cause of Death) are Standard and which are Custom facts. (Assuming you have defined any Custom facts, which may be the problem!)
For Custom facts in particular, use Tools > Fact Types, select fact, then Edit > Normal Time Frame and choose Post-Death, etc, as appropriate, which forces facts without an explicit Date into a logical Time Frame order.
I suggest you re-enable Tools > Preferences > General > Enable Automatic Ordering of Events/ Attributes by Date.
Use Tools > Re-order Out of Sequence Data to ensure all facts are in Date and Time Frame order.
Where are you looking for the Age of Death to calculate?
For it to work, both Birth and Death must be Standard facts with a Date.
If you want Age at Death to appear in a narrative Sentence then the Death fact Age must be explicitly entered.

Re: Move order of facts & age calculation
Not necessarily. If you use {age} in the sentence template it's true, but if you use {age range} it will be calculated if no age has been recorded. See the Help files:tatewise wrote: If you want Age at Death to appear in a narrative Sentence then the Death fact Age must be explicitly entered.

Thank you for that correction Lorna.
I'd forgotten about those codes, and maybe that is where Robin was going wrong?

Thank you Jane,
In the burial fact - The "post-death" box is grayed out; however, Post-Death is in the box. Fact Set standard, fact type event.
Cause of death worked great, I could change that to post-death

Re: Move order of facts & age calculation
Are you still having a problem with the burial event and death event appearing in the wrong order? If so does this happen with a number of individuals or just one? Can you post screen shots of the facts tab of the Property box and the incorrect order in the report?

Everything seems to be sorted out just fine! thank you very much for all of your helpful advice. I think I'm getting the hang of this, now correcting a number of items from the import.
