Fact Sentence
Under the Tools Menu - Fact Types - Show Hidden - Fact Set <none> and under the Visible heading I have a few <undefined> entries.
Under the Facts Tab on the property box
I have as a sentence: She experienced Register of Electors in 1964 in Merton & Morden aged 70
If I edit the Fact Type, Should I save this as a custom event or standard? And if I did what would happen to the sentence?
This is not an area I am familiar with so I would appreciate some help.
Thanks
Jane

Re: Fact Sentence
What you have are Custom Events in your data, but without a matching Fact Type Definition.
The Sentence is the default produced by FH when there is no Fact Type Definition to tell it to do otherwise.
So in Tools > Fact Types select the undefined Label you want to create and click Edit button.
You will be asked if you want to create a new definition, so click OK.
In the Create Fact Definition window you are not allowed to select Fact Set: Standard so choose Custom and click Create button.
In the Fact Definition window you will see among other details the default Sentence Template that FH uses when no definition, but you can now edit that to produce a more sensible sentence.
First click the Help button and digest the advice given there.
You might perhaps want to change the Sentence Template to:
{individual} appeared in the {label} {date} {place} {age}

Re: Fact Sentence
Thanks Mike, After a little playing around and looking at previous topics I have managed to get:
She appeared in the Register of Electors in 1964 at Merton & Morden
I can't seem to edit the in, what I would like if possible is something like
She appeared in the Register of Electors 1964 at Merton & Morden.
Thanks
Jane

Re: Fact Sentence
I think you can use {date:YEAR} instead of {date} and then whatever Date is entered into the fact the Sentence will only display the year without 'in'. All the other Date qualifiers are allowed and will suppress 'in'.

Re: Fact Sentence
Thanks Mike. When I look in the Fact Definition and insert a code for his/her
{his/her} {label} {date}{_place}
I get the sentence:
He Inventory in November 1765 Shepshed
How do I just get:
His Inventory was dated Nov 1765
Or something along these lines
Thanks for you help.

Re: Fact Sentence
I think you must have chosen the code for Name of Individual (or He/She) instead of His/Her or alternatively Name of Individual (or His/Her).
The required template is:
{his/her} {label} was dated {date:COMPACT} if you want to force His/Her at start.
or
{individual's} {label} was dated {date:COMPACT} if you want person's name when not mentioned before.
or
{individual's} inventory was dated {date:COMPACT} if you want inventory with lower-case initial.
or
{his/her} inventory was dated {date:COMPACT} {_place} to get His/Her, then inventory, and Place name at end.
e.g.
His inventory was dated Nov 1765 Shepshed.
Click the Help button in Fact Definition dialogue and follow blue link to Template Codes for full details, and from there the blue link to Date Formats for all the Date Qualifiers and their effect. Any Date Qualifier on the {date} code suppresses its in/on prefix.
Just mix and match the Sentence Template codes and plain text to get what you want, but remember to display the Fact Sentence in the Property Box beforehand, and OK the Fact Definition dialogue to see its effect.
Another technique is to click on the Fact Sentence box itself in the Facts tab and edit the codes there as an experiment. However, remember to transfer the successful solution to the Fact Definition dialogue. Then delete the entire Fact Sentence box itself to restore the default.

Re: Fact Sentence
Thanks again Mike, I'm still getting he, even when I insert the {his/her} I'm still getting he. I don't know what I'm doing wrong
This is the steps I've taken:
I went to the individual's focus window and floated the property box - Facts Tab - Clicked on Inventory to show sentence - Tools - Fact Types - Show Hidden Label - Inventory - Edit

Re: Fact Sentence
Please ignore my last post. I hadn't deleted the Fact Sentence to restore the default in the Fact Definition dialog
Many Thanks Mike
