Current age display
I'm running V6.1.4, although this issue was evident in earlier versions.
In the Focus Windows, some current ages are displayed and others are not. I have been to Customize View and the Ages box is ticked.
For example, in my Focus Window my age, my wife's age and my elder son's age and those of his wife and children are all shown, but my younger son's age and those of his family are not shown.
I have gone to the Focus Window for my younger son and again the Ages box is ticked, but nothing is displayed. I can't see any difference in the way in which the data have been entered.
It's not a major problem, but I would expect it to be consistent.
Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Current age display
This may be a daft question, but do your younger son and family each have a Birth Event with a Date defined?

Re: Current age display
Thanks Mike - it's a perfectly logical question.
Yes, they all have Birth Event with Date listed under Facts. I attach a screen shot of my younger son's Facts for your info.

Re: Current age display
I have not been able to recreate your symptoms, so could you post a screenshot of the Focus Window to illustrate the missing Ages, preferably with a Property Box in the same shot showing the Birth Date for the same person.

Thanks Mike
After I sent you the screen shot, my younger son's age suddenly appeared in the Focus Window. I had not changed any data or settings - it was just there. However the ages of his family did not appear.
I am therefore sending you his Focus Window with his son's Property Box. You can see the missing ages of his family, despite their all having their birth events recorded.

Re: Current age display
The first thing I notice is that Emma has two "facts" about her birth, one is a definite date, presumably from "personal knowledge" of the researcher or a copy birth certificate, the other appears to be from the GRO Births Index and gives only the Year/Quarter. Perhaps FH is looking at the latter and saying that it cannot calculate the age. In any case, surely the second "fact" is an unnecessary record and should be a source as evidence in support of the first fact, which has a definite date.
Try deleting the second fact, or temporarily substituting the actual birth date as a test to see whether the age appears.

David:
Alfie's property box shows that you have a death event for him, with no date. Assuming this is a mistake, simply delete the empty death event and his current age should appear in the Focus window. If someone has died and there is a date of death recorded FH will display the age at death. But if there is a death event without a date FH cannot display any age.
Nigel:
I think the second birth 'fact' for Emma is actually just a note. (The focus Window can optionally display Individual notes). So I don't think that is the cause of the problem. David hasn't shown us Emma's property box but it may turn out that she has an 'empty' death event as well.

Re: Current age display
Many thanks to you both.
Nigel, Lorna is right, Emma's birth registration details are indeed a Note. It seems that if there are not enough Facts, Notes are also displayed in the Focus Window. I will look at changing the default for this.
Lorna, brilliant detective work. Ages now appear. The Death Fact used to appear by default in the Property Box for each new entry until I changed it. When I have remembered, I have subsequently deleted the Death Facts from living people. That certainly explains why some Ages are there and others are not. I will now go through all the records.

Re: Current age display
I'm glad that solved the mystery. However the new mystery is why "The Death Fact used to appear by default in the Property Box". FH does not create empty death facts by default. If you did not create them yourself, could they have been imported from another genealogy program?
If you think there might be a lot of empty death facts in the file, you can find them using the Query available to download here fhugdownloads:contents:query_all_empty_facts|> Query:Fact ~ All Empty Facts
You can sort the results on the Fact column to bring all the deaths together, select all those cells in the facts column and delete them by pressing the delete key.

Re: Current age display
Thanks Lorna
I certainly did not create Death Facts myself as I did not know how to do it at that stage! I imported my tree into Family Historian V4 from Family Tree 4 which did have a separate entry for all events. I assume that is when the Death Facts were created. I then upgraded direct to V6 which overwrote V4 so I can't go back and check.
I know there are a lot of empty Death Facts. I was looking for a cousin's age on her birthday and had to work it out! I then checked loads of others and found the same problem. That is what encouraged me to contact the User Group. I will try your Query, which should save me a lot of searching.
Thanks once again.

Re: Current age display
David, upgrading from FH V4 to FH V6 would not change the Facts recorded against each Individual, so the empty Death Events that exist now were present in V4.
After you have deleted any unwanted empty Facts, I suggest you run some other database checks to ensure no other unwanted data has been imported:

- Use File > Validate command.
- See how_to:handling_unrecognised_data_fields|> Handling Uncategorised Data Fields and use the UDF List Plugin.

Re: Current age display
Lorna and Mike
I have corrected the data indicated by Lorna's query, and have now run all the checks suggested by Mike, and there are no more errors shown.
Many thanks for your help.
