Fact Assessment ie census

Post by GailB » 07 Mar 2016 00:00

Hi All
My name is Gail and I am a new user of FH and I am wondering if anyone can tell me why I am seeing an "Assessment of a Census fact" showing as "Unreliable" and how can I fix it to show as "Primary evidence". I want to change it globally and not just on an individual basis.
Thanks in advance.

Gail
Assuming you are using Ancestral Sources to enter your Census data, you can change the Assessment in AS as follows:
In AS
Tools>Options>Census settings (Drop-down under General settings)
Under Sources, change Citation Certainty to Primary Evidence

Hope that helps

Cheers

Hello Roger, Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I should have explained that I transferred my project from TMG. Whilst I am in Family Historian, and when I go up to Tools, I cannot see:- Options; Census Settings etc. at least it is not apparent to me.
However, I have just used a Plugin called "Add assessment to citations for a Source" and that seems to have changed the word "Unreliable" to "Primary Evidence" for me. So I think I solved that one.
Thanks once again. Gail

The Census setting I referred to is in Ancestral Sources which is a programme specifically designed to assist with entering data into FH - census, b, m, d, etc - with a minimum of fuss. This can be downloaded from the FHUG Home page.
Glad you solved your problem.

Roger

Re Ancestral Sources, it is free (although a donation is welcomed I think) and is written by Nick Walker who is an FH user.

It is IMO a brilliant bit of kit and saves me endless hours: it also enables data entry ot be completely consistent as you can set up your preferences befoe you start loading and they are then saved for fouture sessions.

Once installed, you can invoke it like any other programme or there is an FH plug-in which will invoke it from within FH.

Gail, if you have not done so before then please look through how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers that among many other things has links to AS.
