Change Any Fact Tag 2.7

Post by Ninabee » 17 Jan 2016 18:56

Hello,
I have been using Change Any Fact Tag 2.7 to change a number of alt-birth, alt-death, alt-marriage etc. tags to standard BIRT, DEAT, MARR tags. Then the plug-in just stopped working. It is not populating the Delete and Change buttons, see screenshot

What am I doing wrong? I have tried reinstallimg the plugin, and restarting FH.

Thank you.
Nina

I have not got a full answer, but there are some oddities evident from the screenshot:
  1. At the top it says <hidden> ANUL which suggests you have been into Tools > Fact Types and been using Hide &/or Delete on Standard Facts.
  2. You say you have been changing to Standard Facts, but the screenshot shows the Target Tag Set as <Custom Facts> with Target Tag Name as Standard tag MARR, which suggests you have deleted the Marriage Event from the Standard Fact Set or something?
If you use Tools > Fact Types what is listed for Marriage Event and Annulment Event?

Also what is listed by clicking Fact Sets button?

In the Individual Property Box on the Facts tab, do the Sentences for each Fact look OK?
In the same vein, what does a Publish > Narrative Reports > Individual Narrative look like.

Can you explain what if anything you have been experimenting with in Tools > Fact Types.

Thanks for your reply, Mike.

I have been treating my file kind of roughly over the past year or so. Currently, in FH terms, my fact types seem to be almost exclusively <Custom Facts>, even the ones with standard gedcom labels like BIRT and DEAT. So, what I have been using your plugin for is converting <Custom Facts> with labels like EVEN-ALT_MARRIAGE to <Custom Facts> with labels like MARR, which at least gives me the sentence (for example) Jane Doe and Robert Roe were married on such and such a date, rather than Jane Doe and Robert Roe experienced Marriage on such and such a date. I do find that whenever I open Tools > Fact Types I have to check "Show Hidden" to see my <Custom Facts>.

After I posted in the forum, I finally figured out that as long as I changed the Source Tag Set and Target Tag Set from <Custom Facts> to another Tag Set, and back again, the buttons for Delete and Change will populate. If I don't temporarily switch tag sets, they don't populate. I take it no one else has reported this?

Those Standard tags like BIRT & DEAT & MARR should NOT be <Custom Facts> and should NOT need Show Hidden.

There is something very wrong with your Fact Set definitions that need urgently correcting.

After using Show Hidden, are many Standard Facts listed as <hidden> or <undefined>?
If <hidden> then Show them. Then in the Plugin they will be in the Standard tag set.
If <undefined> then the Standard Fact Set FH installation file needs reloading. (I will explain how later.)

What is listed by clicking the Fact Sets button?

The problem with the Plugin buttons has not been mentioned before, but may be associated with your upset Fact Set definitions, that need rectifying.

This should give you an idea of what my fact types look like:

The Standard facts Adoption, Annulment, Baptism to Burial, Census & Census (family) all look OK.

In your earlier Plugin screenshot it shows DIV to <hidden> ANUL which suggests that Divorce is <undefined> or <eclipsed> and Annulment is <hidden>.
Does the Plugin window Family Records tab still look like that or does it now show Divorce to Annulment?
What does the Plugin Individual Records tab show?

Have you forgotten to mention any changes you have made in Tools > Fact Types such as clicking the Show button?

You have Custom and Probate Event Fact Sets with definitions, but most facts are <undefined> so their Sentence will say He/She experienced...
There are many pairs of Events and Attributes with the same Label/Name which is highly undesirable.

For the 3rd time of asking, what is listed by clicking the Fact Sets button?

Sorry, I thought I had answered the Fact Set question: Census, Custom, Probate Events, Standard. I think I created Census and Probate Events when I was initially exploring the software.

Family Records window of CAFT: DIV to <hidden> ANUL and vice versa
Individual Records window of CAFT: CHR to BAPM and vice versa

I do not think I have done anything with the Show or Hide buttons. Specifically, when I select Annulment, Show is grayed out and Hide is visible.

I plan to clean up the multiple fact types of the same name but I have been busy rooting out duplicate people.

I have been doing a little more digging, and there appear to be some variations in the formats Fact Set files use that the Plugin does not handle, and that I was unaware of.

I will report back when I have a more definitive answer, and when the Plugin should be fixed.

Try the ATTACHMENTS Change Any Fact Tag Version 2.7.1 Date 18 Jan 2016 that fixes the Fact Set file problems.

[EDIT: ATTACHMENT deleted as now in Plugin Store at Version 2.8 Date 05 Feb 2016.]

It should always display Standard facts and <Custom Facts> correctly now.

Standard facts are all the ones defined in the Standard Fact Set.

<Custom Facts> are all the <undefined> facts with no Fact Set definition.

Other entries will be for your Census, Custom, and Probate Events custom Fact Sets.

Any <hidden> fact will be suffixed by <hidden> in the Plugin displays.

The Plugin should never display Standard tags such as BIRT, DEAT, BAPM, CHR, DIV, ANUL, etc.
