Private Facts

Post by lindad » 16 Jan 2016 15:30

Hi

Apologies if this has been asked before. Is it possible to flag or mark an individual fact about an individual person as private? I don't want to hide the whole person, just one fact - in particular the current residence address. For living people, I'd like their address to be for my eyes only... Is that possible?

Thanks!

Linda

Hi Linda, I have moved this to the FH General Usage Forum because it is not to do with using this website.

You cannot flag a Fact as private in the same way that you can add a Private flag to an Individual record.

Where exactly to you want to hide the Fact/Address?
Not in the Property Box, otherwise even you won't see it.

Do you just mean Address or also Place?

In Diagrams, usually only the Place field and not the Address field are included.

So I suspect you are talking about Reports?
You can control the display of Address fields (for all Facts) in Report > Options > Main tab.
You can hide any one Address field (or any part of it) by enclosing in [[privacy square brackets]] via the Facts tab of the Property Box. This does NOT work for the Place field.
You can hide all Residence facts in Report > Options > Main tab Individual Events/Attributes > Exclude List.
Will any of those do?

Thanks Mike, I guess the [[]] system might work.

What's behind my question is that I don't mind people knowing that I lived at 4A Ormonde Road now that I have moved, but didn't want that data to upload to other websites when uploading a gedcom whilst I was living there. Places are not so much a problem, just the specific address. Same goes for data relating to other living people. Diagrams and reports in FH are also not so much an issue as I produce those and control who sees them...
