Order of photos in "Descendants by Generation"

Post by JTempest » 14 Jan 2016 00:21

Hi. I have a specific question please concerning the order in which photos are displayed in report "Descendants by Generation".
On screen it shows the photos (up to three to a line) above the relevant name.
One of my individuals had two wives. I only have two photos for the first one (a) and three for the second (b). These display on the first line as a a b, and on the second line as b b. Is there a way to re-order these photos so that they show - line one a a and on the second line b b b?
This would obviously apply to any photos which need to be shown on a different line.

Cheers

No, I can't think of any way to achieve that in FH.

It always displays Root person photos first, and then each Spouse in order, but limited by the Max Pics per person.

Adding a blank white 'placeholder' photo does not help, because it still gets a black frame around.

One solution would be to find a picture for the husband.
Another is to set Max Pics to 2 &/or adjust the Picture Size and Gaps to display 2 per line.
Finally you could Save Report As > Word-Processor Document (RTF) and adjust the photo positions in a word-processor.

Thanks Mike; I'll have to think on that one.

One way to consider doing this is to use some photo software and merge the photos into one so that one has 2 images side by side and the other the 3.

That is a nice idea Colin, but I found it very difficult (if not impossible) to get the Options > Pictures tab settings to work with wide 'landscape' shape photos, when most are standard 'portrait' shape (in the other generations).

No, Colin, I can stitch the pictures together OK.
I am talking about their presentation in the FH Reports.
If you use the default aspect ratios in Report > Options > Pictures > Size the portrait images are OK, but wide landscape images are very shallow in height. If you use Custom Size to specify a wide aspect ratio, then portrait images are widely spaced apart.

Ah understand now was :?

One way may be to actually change the new wide image to a portrait one with white space top and bottom and then use custom sizes?

But that is effectively what you get with the default 'portrait' settings - a wide shallow image with white space above/below and the details much smaller than the portrait images.
