Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Just tried to enter a name suffix to a relative and noticed that the "name suffix" box is no longer labeled as such. There are now just 2 "Name" boxes under the Primary name box, i.e., V6 no longer differentiates between prefix and suffix, except under the Alt Name box.
Through trial & error I found that the 2nd Name box still outputs to an ISR as a name suffix. Why on earth did they take away the Prefix & Suffix labels on these 2 Primary Name boxes? How are people supposed to know which is which?

Bob,
The boxes still have labels for me. Are you using 6.0.4 or 6.1.0?
You might want to report this to Calico Pie support, support@family-historian.co.uk.

OK here, same as Bill.
Exactly where are you looking Bob? Can you post a screen-shot?
Do you have a 'non-standard' Windows font or theme customisation?

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Interestingly if I compare my Names & Titles dialog box, it looks the same as the screen-shot above except that "Primary name:" just reads "Primary" - with no colon. In other words, there seems to be a touch of truncation. (Just to be clear - I've no problem with this truncation).
I've just overlaid my dialog box on the screen shot and they do appear to be the same size, with the boxes in the same place, so the only difference must surely be the type-face. It might be that my type-face is a tiny bit bigger than the screen shot - but the font in this box is not the same as that in the normal FH property box (which is Tahoma 9pt) so I don't see that I've customised it in FH.
Control Panel doesn't seem to suggest any Windows customisation by me but I wouldn't be too dogmatic about that. I used to know where everything was but I've got better things to do now....

Have you changed the font size for the property box? If so, try making it smaller.
Have you changed the windows font size in windows control panel? If so, try making that smaller.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
I tried all the listed font sizes in the property box and get the same result with each font size.
I have never messed around with Windows font sizes, i.e., I use whatever the default installation was (WIN7 Pro).
This issue just seems to have appeared with FH V6.

I'm not sure what else to try. It seems as though something has been corrupted.
You might try re-installing FH to see if that helps. Otherwise, I'd report this to Calico Pie, support@family-historian.co.uk.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
The font looks the same but there must have been some customisation because the background is a different colour (darker beige/grey instead of pale grey) and the outline of the Close and Help buttons is different (square corners instead of rounded corners, with shadow along bottom and right side).

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Yes, that is very different from my Win 7 theme, much as Lorna describes.
Also Bob's font is different and bolder.
Note also that Name: is missing from Primary.
Changing the FH Tools > Preferences for Fonts has NO effect on that Names/Titles window, so it must be a Windows system effect.
It looks like a Classic Windows theme similar to XP, and not a standard Win 7 theme.
So could someone else have altered the Win 7 default theme and font?
Perhaps to improve performance by avoiding an Aero theme?
So right-click on a blank area of Desktop and choose Personalize from menu.
What theme is highlighted?
Try selecting Windows 7 Basic.
To reset to default Win 7 Font, but do so at your own risk:
In Control Panel select Fonts.
Click Font Settings top left.
Then click Restore default font settings.

Bob,
You get the effect shown in your screenshot if you manually shrink the size of the pop-up input box too far. Try enlarging the box by dragging the bottom right-hand corner and everything should reappear (as if by magic!).

Mervyn,
What Windows version and theme are you using? Does your colour scheme look like Bob's?
With Win 7 standard theme it is not possible to shrink the box to a point where any text disappears. Everything is displayed when the box is opened, and it can be enlarged but not shrunk.

Mike - When I right-click on the desktop, it says I do not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. I have not done anything to WIN7 Pro since it was installed several years ago. Everything worked fine in FH Ver 5 - no changes were made to the OS when I installed FH V6.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Bob, there appears to be something irregular about your Windows 7 installation.
Right-clicking on a blank area of your desktop screen should always produce a context menu allowing you to View, Sort by, Refresh desktop icons, with Personalize at the bottom, and all with unrestricted access, even in a restricted Guest account.
As an alternative, try Start > Control Panel > (Appearance and Personalization) > Personalization and check which Theme is current - I suspect Windows Classic.
What type of account are you using: Administrator, Standard User, or Guest?
How was Windows 7 installed, and by whom?
I realise that the problem has only surfaced with FH V6 but your Windows 7 installation is definitely abnormal.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
FH v6 is presumably significant because that's when the icons and I presume lots of graphics stuff changed, is it not?
I tried resizing but couldn't get the "Primary" to become "Primary name:", though, as I said, that's not an issue for me.
Wildly guessing but is it possible that driver issues could also play a part? Or if there's an oddity about the fonts used?
Adrian

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Mike, I run the computer as "Administrator", been that way since purchase.
Windows 7 Pro was factory installed. I have allowed Microsoft updates as they became available.
I was able to access Personalization via Control Panel as you suggested. The Desktop Background is "Wallpaper", which is a personal picture.
The "Window Color" is "Windows Classic". None of these settings have changed since I went from V5 to V6.
I just checked my laptop, which also has FH V6 installed. I do get the Name Prefix & Name Suffix labels correctly on the laptop. It also uses WIN7Pro. I have not seen anything different on the laptop settings vs the desktop settings, except that I can right-click on the laptop Desktop and immediately access Personalization, i.e. I do not get the "do not have the appropriate permissions" warning that I get when using the desktop computer.
So, there must be something that has gotten corrupted on my desktop computer.
Is it possible to re-install V6 over my existing V6 installation without causing other issues? Maybe it just needs a fresh install of V6. Of course, I would do a Full Backup to an external drive first.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Bob,
When you go into Personalize on each computer, what is the Theme (not the color) that is selected? Are both computers using Windows Classic as the theme? I'm just curious. I tried using Windows Classic as the theme on my computer and it works fine.
I would think you could just reinstall V6 without any problems, but I'll defer to Mike who is much more of an expert on the program than I am.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Yes, just reinstalling FH V6 is no problem, but I think the 'problem', as you are beginning to discover, actually lies in your Windows 7 desktop that as you say has gotten corrupted.
In Personalization it is not the Desktop Background nor Window Color that matters so much as the current Theme in the central scrollable pane, that I suspect is Windows Classic.
I realise that you have not changed Windows 7 recently, but FH V6 uses it differently from FH V5, and is finding problems in the features it now uses.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
Is that the same as on your laptop?
If I was you I would save that theme and give it a name so you can go back to it. I would then select Windows 7 Basic to see if that fixes the problem. If not, you can go back to the theme you just saved.
If this doesn't fix it, I'd probably reinstall FH 6 to see if that helps.
If not, I'd report the problem to Calico Pie to see if they can help.

Here is the laptop Personalization screen. Pretty much the same as the desktop, except the "Unsaved Theme" picture is different.
The "Window Color" is also a custom color on the laptop, but I don't see where that would be an issue.
Changed the theme to Windows 7 Basic and still no Prefix/Suffix labels.

Re: Name Prefix & Suffix Labels Missing in V6
The problem could be caused by a corrupt windows login profile, its the sort of thing that could be affected if there are issues. The colour style on the Control Panel window is a bit strange, it looks more like a very old version of windows rather than Win7.

Yes, that is what we keep saying. Something is corrupted, and the Theme looks like Windows Classic XP style.
If it is the login profile, then try creating another Administrator account.
Click on Start, and then your icon at top of grey right-hand pane to open User Accounts window.
Or if that does not work, use Start > Control Panel > User Accounts.
Click on Manage another account and then Create a new account.
Give it a New account name, and select Administrator, then Create Account.
If that new account runs FH V6 OK then you have cracked it!

Bob, you (or someone else using your PC) are not by any chance running one of these programs that lets you configure the W7 start menus to appear like Win XP (eg. Classic Start Menu)?
I use this as I prefer the XP style of menus and screens, although I've not seen any problems with FH running under it.

Mike,
You suggested:
"Click on Manage another account and then Create a new account.
Give it a New account name, and select Administrator, then Create Account."
When I click on "Create a new account", nothing happens, i.e., it just will not open.
More evidence, I assume, that something is corrupted. Even the Windows "New updates are available" icon is dead - nothing happens when I click it either. Computer is 6 years old, maybe time for a new one.
