You need to get to the Family record property box. If you have the focus window open (showing the two people and their children) make sure that the property box is showing on the right side and then click the line between the people and the children (with the marriage details) and on the right you will get the family property box. Either select the note tab and Add Note, which can be local to the record and start typing in the bottom box or add a linked note which will bring up a selection box so that you can select an existing note record or click New and again type in the bottom box.

You can actually add the Note directly from the Property Box of either Spouse.

So with the Property Box open for say the husband choose the Notes tab.
Click the Add Note button and choose Add Shared Note for a Couple and choose the wife.
Then enter the text of the Note in the blank pane below.

The only thing to remember is that the Family Note really only applies to the parents - it's easily seen from their records and on their reports, but isn't immediately visible from the records for the children or their reports.

Unless, that is, anyone knows better.

So in a case like yours, I'd add the story to a Family Note for the parents (i.e. the two of them as a couple) and then, for each child, I'd just add a note against them as an individual, saying "See parents' details for the episode of ...."

You could create a free-standing Note Record that is shared between each parent and each child, but the problem there is that if the Note is shared between (say) 2 parents and 4 children, then any printout will see the story appearing 6 times.

Would creating a source and attaching it to the individuals concerned via a fact/event work?

A Family Note does appear on a Family Group Sheet after the Husband, Wife, and Children, under the heading Note on Marriage.

Interestingly, a shared Note Record linked to the Family and to each Child still only appears once on a Family Group Sheet, but appears once on each Individual Summary Report for a family member, and not at all on a Narrative Report.

So the moral is experiment with where you enter the text against a variety of Reports with various options until you get what you want.
