When I find a "new" person to add to my one-name study I like to use the tree as an aid to locating which family this individual belongs to. To do that I want to see the children and parent boxes with the parents siblings on the same screen.
I am a newbe and find that there is a large vertical separation between children and parents such that when the boxes are big enough to read I can only see either the parents or the children. Is there a way to put boxes much closer together without reducing the box size?

Re: Customising Trees
If you are using the All Relatives diagram, try changing the options to use the "Flat Style" which brings the generations closer together.

Re: Customising Trees
As a newcomer I suggest you work through the topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and its links to the rest of our Knowledge Base.
You may be unaware that Diagrams have many customisation options.
Use Diagram > Options and the customisations are presented on several tabs.
Jane's suggestion is on the General tab against Style: top right.
Also try Orientation: Left-right which may be better for you.
To get siblings closer, try setting Spouse display options: to No spouse info.
To reduce the gap between boxes try the Dimensions tab and More Dimensions... button.
Reduce all the Vertical Dimensions to say 0.1 cm, click OK, and OK again.
To retain those customisations distinct from the standard settings, use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type and choose an appropriate name. Thereafter, use View > Custom Diagram Types and select that name.
The standard Diagrams via the toolbar icons can then be returned to their Installation Settings.
