Importing Images from FTM2014
I am considering Family Historian v6 as the new home for my family history data. I have literally 1000s of images and files linked to my FTM2014 database. They are stored on my hard drive in various folders (i.e. c:\My Documents\Family History Documents, c:\My Documents\Photographs etc.) rather than in the FTM2014 image folder. Will the links to these images be included in the gedcom file? If not is there a solution to what will be a major problem for me?

Re: Importing Images from FTM2014
Welcome to the FHUG Colin.
Why not experiment with the FH V6 Free 30-day Trial and follow the how_to:import_from_family_tree_maker|> Import from Family Tree Maker (FTM) advice.
Even if FH does not import the image files and links, it is most probable that the links will be in the GEDCOM but may need re-mapping and the files copying to re-establish the connections. Not a major problem.

Re: Importing Images from FTM2014
Thank you. I've downloaded the trial version and experimented as suggested. After one false start when the program froze creating the new project I sucessfully imported the gedcom generated by FTM2104.
There was an exceptions file generated when the gedcom was imported but for the life of me I can't find it.
All the images are in the project folder but only those that were originally linked to persons and facts show in the various views. All the images (i.e. images of certificates, census returns, military records etc - the majority of the 9,000 plus images involved) that were linked to citations in FTM2014 are no longer linked to the citations and the text of the citations appear to have been mapped in a manner I would not have expected and have been truncated.
The look and feel of Family Historian is so different to FTM2014 and while I am prepared to undertake the necessary learning curve I would not want to manually re-link the images to the citations (or to the facts if that is what is normally done in FH) as I went through that pain when I moved from Ancestral Quest to FTM only a few years ago so I'm hoping there is a way of mapping them instead.

Re: Importing Images from FTM2014
May I advise you spend some time working through the topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and the rest of our Knowledge Base. Any new genealogy program is bound to present things differently.
Images linked to Citations could be linked in two different places in FH as explained below.
Open the Records Window and select the Media records tab.
You should be able to find a Media record for every image file in the Project's Media folder.
The Links column identfies how many other records link to this Media record.
Select one that should be linked to a Citation and use Publish > Multimedia Report to obtain details of the Media record and everywhere it is linked in your database.
To actually find those locations, select one Media record, and use View > Record Links.
Select a record and click Go To, then double-click the resulting record to open its Property Box.
(1) If it is a Source record then the image will appear on its Media tab similar to Individuals and their Media tab.
(2) If it is an Individual (or Family) record then the image is attached to the Citation itself in the All tab, which is a little trickier to navigate, but that fact that the link took you here shows the link exists. There is a Plugin to give full details, but the FH Trial does not support them.
However, hopefully you are satisfied that all the images are linked to Citations.
The other problems such as the truncated fields can also be fixed with Plugins as this is becoming a well worn path from FTM. The main cause of the problems is that FTM does not implement the GEDCOM export correctly to the formal specification.
