* FTM Gedcom import errors

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

FTM Gedcom import errors

Post by baxendl » 01 Dec 2015 20:00

I've now cured the Custom ID issue with much help from Mike.

He also commented:
"On inspecting your sample Gedcom, it exhibits some typical characteristics of an import from FTM. You will find that several Facts are 'missing' such as Address, Medical, Military, etc. So when the Custodian Ref. have been moved to Custom Id, I can explain how to fix those other problems. They would have been reported when you first imported the Gedcom to FH, and should still exist in Window > Log Files that you can View."

I now need help to correct these issues.

Residence and Address facts are there under the Main tab, but is shown on one line in the Place field. Medical & Military facts only show up in the All Facts tab, not in the main Facts tab.

Guidance on how to fix these issues would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Lesley

Start by looking at how_to:handling_unrecognised_data_fields|> Handling Unrecognised Data Fields.

I have recently been through a similar exercise in Custom Fact does not fully process (13038) and FH6 GEDCOM CONC lines not processed in FH6 application (13041) but they got quite long winded, so I've summarise the details in the Knowledge Base.

Some of the other fixes mentioned in those threads and in how_to:import_from_family_tree_maker|> Import from Family Tree Maker (FTM) may also be applicable.

Thanks Mike,

I'll work my way through it and see how I get on.
