How to Delete a Person?
Hi, I am fairly new to Family Historian so please forgive my ignorance. I am sure this must be straightforward but I can't seem to find any help for it so maybe I am phrasing the question incorrectly?
The scenario is that I have added an extra child, having been misled by the IGI, which showed two baptisms when there was only one baptism - the child's name had been recorded incorrectly and then amended and both names were transcribed as separate entries.
So, I just want to delete the extra child. This tree has only outline data, just names and dates and no sources or other details (those are recorded elsewhere, just not in this project) so surely this must be simple?
I have searched for 'delete' and 'delete a person' but without success. I did stumble across some detailed help for 'delete unwanted data' under 'split tree helper' but it seemed very involved and if that is where the answer lies then I don't understand it!
Thanks for any help.
Sue

Sue,
On the records list, select the individual you want to delete and hit the delete key or use Edit > Delete.

Re: How to Delete a Person?
Better than Bill's solution in this case is:
Assuming that extra Child is linked to the Parents then use the technique in how_to:removing_unwanted_relations|> Removing Unwanted Relations and choose the Delete Record option.

Re: How to Delete a Person?
That's great, thank you both!
I did try at least one of these methods earlier but was scared off by the 'are you sure?!' message. Now that I am sure it is not so scary.
I have learned two things. Firstly, that it is best to delete a child from the family rather than in isolation as that also zaps any links. Secondly, that if I had searched the Knowledge Base, rather than just the FH Help and the forum messages, I might have found the answer myself. Both noted and recorded here in case I forget.

Mike,
Just for my knowledge, why is right clicking and selecting delete from the focus window better? Does it do something more than using the delete key on the records list does?

Re: How to Delete a Person?
Bill, it is better because it is easier to access, and gives the options of Delete or Unlink. I suspect it also cleans up the Family record Child link straightaway rather than wait for the Save/Open sequence to remove the Child link.
Also offers similar options for other Family members in the Focus Window rather than switching to Records Window and possibly selecting wrong Individual records.

Re: How to Delete a Person?
Mike,
Good to know. I do use both methods and thought they were accomplishing the same thing.
Thanks,
Bill
