PDF output is not enabled

Post by Elliemorin » 03 Oct 2015 01:22

I have Version 6.0.4 and just did an update. I do not see a FH printer in the drop down File. I also looked in my control panel under printers and do not see one. Will I have to reinstall my original disc and if so will it remove my existing tree. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Welcome to the FHUG, Ellie.

That appears to be quite a common problem.
For advice on that sort of topic, investigate the how_to:index|> Family Historian and in particular the how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> Family Historian Installation Advice.

Under FH Installation Problems there is how_to:family_historian_installation_problems#save_as_pdf_file_does_not_work|> Save As PDF File Does Not Work that offers solutions. If they do not work, then ask again, as there are further options.

Re-installing FH should not affect your existing database, but as always you should have suitable backups of everything important just in case of any PC disaster. This would be a good time to review your backup strategy. See glossary:backup_and_recovery|> Backup and Recovery for advice, which is just one of the many newcomer topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.

If anything is not clear, then please just ask.

Thanks Mike, I was very hesitant but backed up everything before the reinstall and it worked!! I am assuming it was a corrupted printer driver. Thx again for the moral support!
