cousin marrying another member of family

Post by jsphillips » 06 Jul 2015 07:06

Ive found in the family one member who married her cousin after her partner passed away how does one link this together ?
Do you have to create a duplicate person or is there a way of linking them without creating new boxes ??

If I understand you correctly, all that you need to do is display the Property window of either of the two cousins, click Add Spouse/Partner then Link Existing Record, then select the other cousin from the list of individuals.

Yes, that is the method, and the how_to:recording_children_other|> Recording Children for multiple partnerships explains not only how to add multiple partnerships/marriages, but also the Children of those partnerships.

When you display Diagrams involving those cousins, you will almost certainly get coloured ribbons linking the cousins in their two positions within your family tree. This is normal, but may need some careful adjustment to box positions to minimise the impact of the ribbons. Alternatively, the ribbons can be hidden, or the style changed to something less prominent.

The main reason for swapping from my old program to Family Historian is the elegant way it handles not just cousins but any marriage back into the family from a common ancestor. I looked at several other offerings before settling on FH as the most satisfactory way of displaying this situation.
