Pedigree collapse (implex) in diagrams

Post by reinhard » 13 Mar 2015 07:22

Hello,

I consider buying FH but have some questions:

How does FH handle a pedigree collapse (implex) in diagrams? :?:
I could not find this topic neither in the book "Getting The Most From Family Historian 5" nor here at FHUG.

Generally, there should be two options:
1. Show double ancestors twice
2. Show double ancestors only once (because the person lived only once though he/she was related in two ways to the descendand)

Family Historian uses check for Duplicates where cousins marry or similar events and uses a curved line to link the two locations.

You can see the results easily enough by viewing a Ancestor diagram for the people shown in your example.

The simple answer is that FH Diagrams alway show the double Ancestor twice, in their two positions in the pedigree.

The two Ancestor boxes are optionally linked by a coloured ribbon to show they are duplicated in the Diagram.

What you did not ask is how the Ancestors of those double Ancestors are displayed.

FH lets you choose which pedigree Ancestor line to display. You can display both lines, just one line, or neither. Simply right-click the Ancestor box and choose Expand Branch or Close Branch.

There is a useful discussion in the "Getting the Most...." book in Chapter 9 Setting the Style, Layout & Content of Diagrams (see pages 93-95 Duplicates).
