* Web site wizard UTF-8 error

Thought I would update my website using ver6. The wizard creates all the pages but comes to a halt during the next process with the error shown in the attachment. I have checked what has been saved and all seems correct apart from the home page which seems to have had most of the formatting removed.

Probably the error described here: UTF-8 error (10146).

I contacted Calico Pie about it a few days ago as I'm getting it in FH6 as well,, and was told:

We have not been able to reproduce this, but it does sound like some sort of conflict, could you try clearing the web folder or generating to a new folder do you ever see the problem in that case also do you know if it stops on the same file each time.

Have you tried turning off your AV while generating? When creating the reports I believe they are first done as Unicode 16 and then converted to UTF-8 so it may be that the AV is checking the new file when FH tries to delete/rename it.

Haven't had a chance to follow up myself yet.

Thanks for that. I tried using Windows Explore to delete all the files in the target folder before trying again but still have the same result. I am using Windows7 Home Edition. It seems to stop halfway in the process that follows creation of the web pages. I am not aware of any missing pages but the home page, toc2.html and toc3.html all are missing the menu bar and the text on the home page is no longer centered.

Try eliminating the toc2.html and toc3.html by removing the 2nd and 3rd Table of Contents items one at a time, just to see if that bypases the problem.

Also try temporarily disabling your Anti-Virus Package just while the Wizard is running.

Have done some more research - All the families are present and have their web pages shown as expected. However all the individuals (though all are present) have the menu bar missing.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my anti-virus and not sure how to turn that off.

I tried removing all items from the home page except for "index" and it then works and it seems to produce all the pages as expected. I will try removing things one at a time and see if I can locate the problem

I think you can left or right click on the Notification Area MSE Icon and choose exit or close.
Alternatively, click to open MSE and on the Settings tab there are many Exclude options.

I would stronly advise you ditch MSE and replace with a more secure AV tool.
See the many reviews of MSE such as http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/security/38 ... ennis-test that show it misses about 40% of threats.
I did use MSE but have now switched to Avast Free.

Well I tried eliminating items one at a time and the problem seems to happen when I include an outline ancestor report. Once that has been included the effect continues even if it is later deselected and one needs to clear the target file using Windows Explorer.

I have Avast on my back up computer so looks like I should install it here as well although I haven't experienced any problems with MSE.

This could be useful info for Calico Pie -- I don't have a descendant outline in my webpage but I do have an ancestor outline... Will add that to the list of things I need to test.

I'm still using MSE -- how effective it is very much depends on how risky your Internet habits are -- if you're in the habit of browsing to/downloading from risky corner of the Internet, or opening attachments to emails without thinking hard about it first, you might want something else. It's advantage (as far as I'm concerned) is that it seems to co-exist well with most other programs (which can't be said of the free virus checkers I've used in the past).
