Upgrading to V6 - will I lose my custom queries?

Post by squirrelsister » 08 Feb 2015 00:41

Apologies if these questions have been answered before.

Over the years I have been adding to V5 by downloading fact sets, custom queries and plugins. If I upgrade to V6 will I lose the custom queries? And/or the "lists" and flagged records I have created? Do the custom queries available from FHUG work on V6?

Thanks

I upgraded by CD and everything from V5 was there in V6.

You joined the FHUG in Aug 2011 so have already been through the FH V4 to V5 Upgrade.
As with any upgrade, the FH V5 to V6 Upgrade should preserve all your data and customisations.
But you would be wise to take backups beforehand just in case, as advised in glossary:backup_and_recovery|> Backup and Recovery which covers not just your Projects but also any Queries, Reports, Diagram Types, Diagram Text Schemes, Fact Sets, Property Box Tabs, or Plugins that you might have modified.

The fhugdownloads:index|> FHUG Downloads, including Queries, should work with FH V6. There was a problem with some that involved Place fields, due to the new Place Records, but that is fixed in FH V6.0.2. Any other problems should be easily resolved.

Some Plugins may pose a different problem associated with the support for Unicode characters. All established Plugins were written assuming only ANSI characters exist in Projects, but that is no longer true once accented foreign letters, or Asian characters, or Unicode symbols are used.

I have updated all my Plugins where necessary to be compatible with both FH V5 and FH V6. The FH V6 Plugin Review (11994) summarises others that may pose a problem and should be updated in due course.
