Missing 1871 Census for this family see the clipping attached.

I have managed to produce the majority of the dates BMD and census for this family of mine.
I am missing the 1871 Census only for this family since Mum & Dad (Robert & Eliza) died in 1867 some of the children must have been in the workhouse or looked after for the Census of 1871
The 1881 -1911 holds no clues to this. I can only assume they were in the workhouse. Charles Had had died as also had James Hales
Robert born Marylebone died 1908 Southwark 1871 ensus here in Minories
Thomas Born Marylebone died 1919 Winchester 1881 census missing was in the Army Royal rifles
William born St James Westminster cannot find marriage or death or Census after 1861
Eliza born St Giles died 1933 Edmonton Census 1881 Lambeth
James born St Giles died 1909 Battersea 1881 Census Barracks Portsmouth
Joseph John Hales born St Giles died some time after 1929 1881 Census Tottenham Court Road apprentice no death date
John Hales died 1866
All were present on 1861 census 6 Stacey Street St Giles

There are a number of possibilities:

1) The 1871 Census covering where the family were living is missing. FMP lists the missing parts of the Census and I think the information should also be on the National Archives web site.
2) The entry with your family has been mis-transcribed - try searching for likely addresses and try different sources - Ancestry, FMP, The Genealogist etc to see if the family show up. Also, try searching on given names only.
3) Is there a possibility that the family emigrated and then came back home? I have several family groups that went to American and Canada and then came back to the UK after a few years.
4) Could the younger members of the family have been farmed out to relatives in different parts of the country? Even if they were in the Workhouse - and I don't know what evidence you have of this - they would have been enumerated.
