Internet Matching

Post by chris_searl » 09 Dec 2014 16:45

I have upgraded to FH6 and am running on W8.1

I have yet to see any Internet Matches although everything else appears to be as advertised and is very pleasing.

Can anyone suggest what settings I may have overlooked My Internet Data Matches Window is set for all matches, default confidence, any match status, no email list exclusions, activate link on Hint Click, Location Web Search Window, Display match progress indicators is ticked.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards

Chris Searl

I have the same issue. I know there are matched because I am a member of MyHeritage.

May be with all the new FH V6 installations today, all searching for matches, the MyHeritage site is overwhelmed.
Wait a day or two and see what happens.

Are there any screenshots of what the matches are supposed to look like, once we have them?

I can't believe I am so interested in a function which will probably make me say, "YES, I already know about that!" over and over. But something may have turn up which I've overlooked. You never know.

Oh, I just found a post by tatewise that explains what I wanted to know. Mike says:
FH automatically puts tiny numerical icons on the Focus Window Individuals to indicate how many hints exist in My Heritage. If you don't click on those numerical icons then nothing else happens.
I should have known Mike would have posted something already. Thanks, Mike. And thanks to all the beta testers.

Don't forget to visit the http://www.family-historian.co.uk/ web site where there are screenshots of all the new features and lots more.

Mike -- just wanted to note that I have been trying to get to the "What's new" page and have had many failures.

Part of the problem is that the announcement at Google+ from the Family Historian page has a link which is malformed. This is the text of the announcement, whose time-stamp appears to me as 7:20 AM:
Version 6 of Family Historian has now been released. This is a major upgrade. There are many new features and many important enhancements to existing features. The overall look of the program has been much improved, and there have been numerous big usability enhancements. See http://bit.ly/newfh6for full details and pictures.
Note that there is no space in between the end of the link and the phrase "for full details and pictures".

Removing the word "for" sends the user to http://www.family-historian.co.uk/featu ... -version-6 -- which works. I'll put a comment on the post.

No matches currently received. I am operating from a MacBook Air with Parallels in a Windows 8.1 environment.
I upgraded yesterday.

I'm not seeing any match progress indicators either (that option is ticked in Preferences) and nothing happens when I click on Refresh Internet Matches (via right-click in Focus window).

Can you try the above from Tools>Preferences and see if it helps.

Jane,
That doesn't make any difference for me. Like Peter, I am not seeing any Match Progress Indicators either. I have checked this looking at some people I know did have matches when I was using the beta version.

I'm also having the problem -- matches that showed up in Beta aren't showing up any more. Refreshing Internet Services hasn't helped.

Same problem here. They showed in beta but not in Ver 6.

Same here. Working fine during beta testing but not working now, neither on desktop (Windows 7 64 bit, v6 installed over v5 and 6beta) nor on laptop (Vista, 6beta was not previously installed on this so v6 simply installed over v5).

I noticed on installation that during install there was an option to enable internet data matching or not. IIRC, the default was not but I ticked the box to enable data matching. I mention this only in case it is relevant.

Haven't got round to do the upgrade yet, but it looks to be working fine still in the Beta Version. Or certainly does on my Machine.

I wonder if this possibly caused by the cache being created in the Beta, try renaming the MyHeritageCache.dat file in the Cache folder for the Project does that help, I am not seeing the issue all mine seem to be working ok.

Renaming the cache file hasn't helped either -- and it doesn't work on a project I didn't test in the beta where I'd expect it to find at least census matches.

Ditto no file.
When I installed FH V6 the Internet Data Matching option was ticked by default.

I understand there was a settings issue on the server, please can you all try doing the reset again to see if that now fixes the issue.

Thanks, Jane. After the reset you documented at 13:11, above, it now seems to be working OK. :)
