Forum Usage Guide - discussion

Jane, does it take a day or so for this * function to come into effect?
It does not appear to work for new topics less than a day old.

I just created a new note and it had the link when I viewed it. Can you let me know the URL of one that does not work please.

I cannot get it to fail now, but will post a link if it crops up again.

Meanwhile can you add GED to the allowed Attachment filetypes?

You could already upload zip files, but I have added ged as well now.

Jane, I have found an example of where the * function does not work.

See "Go to Record" button not always working (12158).

It would appear to be the "string quotes" that inhibit the * function, because removing them gets it working and re-inserting them stops it again.

I wonder if any other symbols upset the * function?

I have had a quick look and need work out how to do the replace in the Javascript as if I simply wrapper the text with single quotes it will fail when they occur in the topic title. Now we know what the problem is any double quotes in a title can easily be changed by a moderator to single ones.

I don't really want to edit the core code for PHPBB to replace them at entry as it would make it more trouble-sum to install upgrades.

I tried changing the double string quotes to single ones and that does NOT fix the problem.
So only removing then completely fixes the problem.
Are there any other symbols we need to watch out for?

I don't think so, the Javascript simply encases the topic title field in double quotes.
