Step children in descendant narrative report

Post by Ossie57 » 29 Sep 2014 20:22

Hello,

I am trying to work out how to include "step son" into a narrative descendants report.

I'm using version 5 of FH and have created the standard narrative report but instead of saying "John Smith, step son of Brian Smith and Julie Brown..." it shows as "John Smith, son of Brian Smith and Julie Brown...".

Is there any way to adjust the wording within a standard report?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

thank you.

David

Here are a few suggestions.

(1) In the Birth Event for John Smith edit the Sentence and add and in 1890 became step-son of Julie Brown.
(I presume he was only the step-son of Julie Brown and Brian Smith was his natural father.)
Then the Narrative Report says John Smith, son of Brian Smith and Julie Brown, was born 1876 and in 1890 became step-son of Julie Brown.

(2) Add a local Note to the John Smith Record saying He became step-son of Julie Brown in 1890.
For the Narrative Report in Report Options on Main tab tick Record Notes.
Then towards the end of John Smith's entry that Note will be included, but so will Record Notes of others.

(3) After creating the Report use Save Report As > Word-Processor Document (RTF) and edit the wording in a word-processor such as MS Word.

Thank you Mike, I will give these ideas a go.

It would be good to be able to make some changes to the actual report build (I guess this would be done using the relevant perl code) but in any case your workaround may be the way to go for now.
