Duplicate family members on Focus Window
What causes one child to appear below the rest of the family, even though the parents names/ID#s are the same? I've run into this several times. Validating doesn't seem to fix it.

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
Could it be a duplicated person(s) (e.g.one of the parents), 2 marriages for the same couple?

I suspect you have a duplicate family record left over from a merge. See

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
Thanks, Jim, that's something I will investigate.
Jane, I ran the query and did come up with several duplicate spouses (same people). However, when I click on the link Correcting Duplicate Spouses/Families, it just returns me to the same page. All the links I found did the same thing. So, how do I get to the instructions to fix the problem?
Thanks.

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
I suspect you have two family records for the couple.
Note that the fist has a Marriage date the second has not and only has one child.
In the Property Box of either parent open the All tab.
There will be two Family as Spouse entries.
If you expand them both you will see which has the marriage and multiple children.
Select the one with only one child and hit the delete key.

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
Thanks, Mike, that worked. However, I must say it is not at all intuitive. It would be nice to have an "expand all" choice at the top.
It IS good, though, to have both a delete LINK and delete record choice!
Cheers,
Kathleen

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
OK, here I am again. Now I have a spouse listed twice and cannot get the one child transferred to the correct union. She is already linked to both parents, just listed separately. If I delete the link to that second spouse, the child goes with it. ????
Edited:
Ah-ha! Used the "add child" option on the correct family, then deleted the other one!

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
kbella - note you have no reply yet and I have no idea. I've not come across it yet in FH, but in TMG I had similar situations and sometimes found it easier to "strip it down", and reconnect, even to deleting people/ families and re-keying (perhaps export then reimport, but that might reintroduce the problem). Look/Search the Gedcom file to see if there is anything obvious. Sometimes the more you try to fix something without understanding what is wrong, it just gets more "knotted".

Jim, kbella "Edited" entry says solution was found.

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
Thanks, Jim! It's taking me a while to get used to how things are linked in FH, but I'm getting there - I find the "undo" option very useful. Also a former TMG user.
