Use of Family Historian on more than one pc

Post by mfro » 26 Jun 2014 19:01

I would like to know whether it possible to de-register computers for Family Historian in the same way than one can de-register a computer like one can do with iTunes to avoid breaching the condition that Family Historian should be installed on no more than two computers, both owned by the user for his/her sole use?

From my searches on the Forums for posts on Multiple Computer Use, it doesn't seem an option.

If it is not possible to de-register computers which are no longer in use, will uninstalling Family Historian from that computer satisfy the conditions of use?

And what should I do, in the case of hard drive failure, where the initial hard drive as well as its replacement have been returned to the manufacturer and the computer replaced? By my reckoning, that is equivalent to three downloads, two of which I cannot access to uninstall the software.

I've had a recent run of bad luck there, unmatched in the years since I started out with a ZX Spectrum, but I hope to hear from someone who's dealt successfully with a similar situation.

Ideally you would un-install FH before installing on a third, but as long as the old copies are still not being used (not the case where hard drives have died), you are fine.

Thank you, Jane! I will uninstall it from the old computer that I can access and then try downloading to the new one.

I am a little worried about your proposal to "try downloading".

If you have the Upgrade V4 to V5 you can't download it. You must use the installation executable you used to install on your old PC.

Only if you purchased a Full V5 licence can you download the V5 30-day Free Trial and install using your Full V5 licence key.

See how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> How to (Re-)install Family Historian for details.
