Reinstallation of V.5 to after update to 8.1 applied

Post by bp158 » 30 Apr 2014 21:14

I refreshed my pc so that I could apply the update to windows 8.1. The set up keeps hanging at various jpg files in the Sample Project and the Abort Retry Ignore message comes up. FH worked fine in win 8.1 before the update was applied. Anyone else having this problem?

I have been working with 8.1 for several months no problems, what is the actual text for the Abort Retry Message?

The only time I can remember getting that sort of message is when there is a disk error. Which might suggest the drivers for your hard disk are not working well with 8.1

I had been using FH successfully with 8.1, but the update kept failing so I decided to refresh the system which meant reinstalling FH. I have the full FH version disk, not just the upgrade. Do you think it might be corrupt? I had earlier in the evening reinstalled Photoshop Elements successfully using the same removable hard drive. My machine does not have an integral cd.
When I had my new windows 8 computer in August, the reinstallation of FH using the same equipment and disk worked perfectly.

The error message is

Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

As I thought that does point to a hard drive error.

Take a look at:

Does you computer have an SSD hard drive and what exactly did you do to refresh the PC, it could be you have not installed the disk drivers correctly.

Try using the Copy Project option to create a copy of your Project do you get lots of errors doing that?

Thank you for your help, Jane. Panic over. There was a fault reading the disk so I washed it in cool water and washing up liquid. Installed like a dream.
Phew!
Many kind regards

I assume that Barbara means the FH CD and not her HDD !
