I've just tried it on my iPad (with iOS 7.1 and Safari) and it works fine, in both landscape and portrait modes, and it switches between them very smoothly.

Mike - If you click on the blue bar does it not move you down to the content? also I can't see the need to zoom on the KB pages, I can read them with out my reading glasses on my 4" Nexus phone, and to zoom far enough to make the top bar very large also leaves about 10 lines to the page of text. The idea with the mobile ready site templates is that you could not have too zoom.

Jane - Yes the blue bar skip to content works, but every time you link to a new page it appears again, so navigating takes longer.
Using the go back button takes twice as many clicks because it navigates back through blue bar, page contents, blue bar, page contents...

So choice is between portrait mode with the above blue bar annoyance but less black bar intrusion, or landscape mode with no blue bar, but intrusive thick black bar especially when page is zoomed in.

I have added a scroll, so that on narrow screens on the KB it scrolls down to the content. You will the scroll so hopefully people will twig they need to scroll back for the menu.

I don't see any scroll effect - is it meant to perform an automatic skip to content?
If so, it is not happening in my Android Chrome browser, nor on narrow windows with blue bar on PC browsers.
I've tried powering the Android off & on, but no change.

Strange it's working fine on my Nexus Phone and Tablet and on Chrome and IE on the PC. The window has to be less than 800 for the scrolling to happen and it will only happen on page load and not when changing the window size after loading.

Yes, all OK now, I am new to Android and it was not obvious how to clear the Chrome cache, and the forms are working OK now too!

Jane,

Not a great lover of the Orange but will live with it.

Whilst you are tweaking things is there any chance of turning on quick reply? I prefer this as a way of working.

Quick reply is not a trivial one, as I need to install a Mod rather than just turning on a switch. I won't have time to do it at the moment, but I will look at it going forward.

Once this theme is stable I will look at adding a couple of other colour themes for the Forums at least, but as I need to customise them to match this one again it won't be for a while.

There are a couple of text formatting styles that have changed in the KB.

(1) Monospaced text governed by ''monospace'' is now displayed in red text against a grey background, whereas before it was black text against a grey background.
See KB - Basic Text Formatting versus Wiki - Basic Text Formatting.

(2) Ordered lists governed by leading - are now numbered in decimal 1. to 9. at all nested levels, whereas before the nested levels used a. to z. at 2nd level and other styles at lower levels.
See KB - Lists versus Wiki - Lists.

Monospaced text style is used throughout the Contribute Your Knowledge guides (and probably elsewhere) to highlight actual text or formatting codes, in the same way that the Wiki guide does.
It is misleading and odd for it to be red, because the actual text referred to is never red.
e.g. Module Require With Load (code snippet)
& Result Set Creation (code snippet)
& Utility ~ ACC2GED (CSV to GEDCOM) Download and Run

Numbered multilevel lists are less of a problem, but any existing cross-references to say 1.a. will no longer be correct.

I am also not keen on the greyed-out hyperlinks when they reference the currently displayed page.
It is perhaps reasonable when they refer to the whole page, but references to headings within the page using the [[namespace#heading]] format, IMO should NOT be greyed-out.

Yes, there are all OK, thanks Jane.

When a new page topic is being created, then the usual page appears saying: This topic does not exist yet.
Underneath it says: You've followed a link to a topic that doesn't exist yet. If permissions allow, you may create it by clicking on "Create this page".

Unfortunately, in this new KB design, that option is no longer immediately visible, which might confuse newcomers.
It is now actually hidden in the Tools drop-down menu top right.

Could the message be revised by appending the underlined text: ... clicking on "Create this page" in the "Tools" menu top right.

Thanks for updating that 'Create this page' text Jane.

When editing a KB page, there used to be a Media Manager link at the bottom that allowed files to be moved , deleted, etc.
Where has it gone?
It is still there via the old style Plugin Help page editor.

As one of the few people in the world without a smart phone or tablet, may I make my comments.
- the new layout has been made, I believe, to suit those who have one or both. It seems that less tech mortals have been ignored
- on a 'normal' screen (ie computer monitor) the topic being read goes on and on, with large gaps between each entry.
- why move contributors from left to right?

I am still trying to come to terms with the 'improved' FMP site - improvements which will possibly mean that I no longer subscribe to them - when along come changes to FHUG.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Roger

Roger, please feel free to revert to the old forum format if you want. I use FHUG on a PC all the time and since I made the adjustments to the spacing the posts are more compact than that were on the "CA Gen 2" theme. Try pressing the F5 key to make sure you are seeing the latest view.

I tend to agree with Roger, and to support that just display the old CA Gen 2 screen alongside a Marina Orange screen.

The Board index is much the same size in both themes, and arguably the new Marina Orange theme is more attractive.

The Forum lists show 25% more entries in CA Gen 2 theme (with more columns) than in Marina Orange theme.

The Postings show 25% more message in CA Gen 2 theme than in Marina Orange theme.
This is despite the CA Gen 2 theme using larger easier to read fonts and wider margins left & right.
The actual body of the message, the bit that matters, takes up more space in CA Gen 2 theme than Marina Orange theme, because of the larger font.
The wasted space in Marina Orange theme is in the head & tail of each message, partly because it puts the posting date & time on a separate line with an unnecessary repeat of the user's name, and partly due to larger borders top & bottom.

Sorry Jane, cannot keep up with the updates. That is better.
Would like the text font sizes a little larger though - (I know I can change the browser default).

I presume you know some of the headings on Board index and Forum index have gone GREEN in all browsers.

FYI: If I use the Firefox add-on IE Tab 4.0.20130422 that appears to use the old IE6 engine, then the page headings above the Forum postings are not rendered correctly. They were OK until today.
Works OK in genuine IE 11 and also Chrome.

The green - yes, I was trying to reduce the Orange, by using a complementary colour.

Can you post a screen shot, I have not actually changed any thing on the header since the weekend. So it's probably a caching problem of some sort.

Can you grab me a screenshot please.

Screenshot as requested. I've tried all the usual F5 Refresh stuff.
I am not exactly sure when it changed, but I think it was OK when we were investigating the Plugin Help pages.
If I switch back to CA Gen 2 it is all OK, and the KB is OK too.
