New to FH V5

Post by Tonybee » 04 Mar 2014 19:59

After rebooting / updating my PC to Win 7, I have also purchased FH V5 software after using FH V3 for a few years.
My questions ,
Is there any updates I would need to perform, or any recommended plugins that will be helpful at this stage.

Thank you.

I recommend creating a Project from your Gedcom files if you have not already done so

It's also worth checking out the Plugin Store for the Search and Replace plugin and the Census Checking Plugins.

That was quick.
Thank you kindly Jane.
Will check out the link and details of plugins.
I have uploaded my family tree from the setup from V3, I will now have to get used to the new viewing of V5 which at first glance is quit like the V3.
I am quite interested in the making a DVD project. exciting times. :D

Regards..

Tony, could you please update your Profile via User Control Panel centre top, and set your Family Historian version.

Did you have any customised Diagrams, Reports, Queries, etc, in your FH V3?
If so, they will also need to be transferred into FH V5, assuming you have backups of them from your original PC configuration.

Hi Mike.
Just updated my profile as suggested, thanks.
I only customised my Diagrams in V3, However I did not save this when saving the family tree onto an external hard drive. I don't think this is a big issue for me.

I do have my wife's family tree and my own family tree saved as two different trees at moment. however I would like to bring these together as one, would you know if there is a way of doing this please?.

Thank you.

Yes Tony, use File > Merge/Compare File but take heed of the advice to File > Validate and File > Backup/Restore > Full Backup both Projects beforehand.

You will probably only have to merge you and your wife's immediate family, but do remember to check EVERY tab in the Merge/Compare dialogue, and checkout the Help and the glossary:merge_compare_files|> Merge Compare Files for advice on using the facilities.
