Marriage cert as source?

Post by Tigersden » 17 Apr 2005 23:31

What is the best way to enter a marriage cert as a source?
There is no event for marriage in the drop down list. So all marraiges I have entered have been from the properties of the individual, so any source linking to the marriage certificate is just shown as a source, but compared say to the Birth event where the source is shown under that event.
Thanks

Marriage cert as source?

Marriages are family events. Therefore you need to look at the family properties or look via the All tab.

Marriage cert as source?

Hello Tigersden,

I think your question was to the point.
Information sources, for me, can be anything or anybody.
What I have been doing is scanning in any document and linking it to a person, documents that can be linked to several people is just divided and linked.
A wedding photograph gives a case in point where 90% of the persons on the photo' can be separated, scanned and linked.
If the source is a person who ' said ' something this I type in with the rider that it is to be checked.
One thing I do find most helpful is never give a date that could be taken as true unless it comes from an official document. In all other cases I use 'approx' or 'calculated' leaving it to be cleared when I have the certificate or official form.
I hope this helps
