Uploading trees to Genes Reunited

Post by dspivey » 09 Apr 2005 16:34

Has anyone else had problems uploading their FH tree onto Genes Reunited?  I can't do it and get error messages (see below).  They claim to have a support on email but despite four requests I have been ignored. I've been tempted to give up, but have found lots of good information through the site, so am reluctant to abandon the idea.  It looks as though the problem relates to a piece of data in my tree, but I don't know how to identify what's wrong.
I get the following error messages:

Problem Line in Gedcom: 2 DATE 31 jan 2001
(File: d:/websites/genesconnected/Upgedcom/Spivey.GED)
Type mismatch, member_key=wci=LoadGedcom&wce=enter&member_key=858289(2)

followed by

HappyGenesReunited error '800a9c68'
Application-defined or object-defined error
/genesreunited.asp, line 13

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?  Thanks in advance,
Diane

Try copying your file and using the split tree option to remove all source and multimedia links, then upload the striped down version. This might remove what genes is complaining about.

I am afraid I have found the site much worse since it joined with ancestry.com

I have the same problem, but think it is to do with not entering family details before registering, the same problem with support,no reponse take your money and that's it or so it appears!

All I get is the same error message and their GREEN SCREEN.

Do you have an email address for support that I could try other than throught their Web site.

Would like to use their Service like you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I did finally get a response from the website support - though the first response I got was one just telling me to look at their help instructions on the site, so they didn't actually read my problem until I went back a second time. All they could tell me was that there is a piece of data (a date) which is not in the right field in my tree - though they said it was in the right format. Trouble is, I don't know where to look for this errant date in my data. As Jane suggested I stripped all sources, notes etc and tried again but still get the error message. The emails came from support@genesreunited.com - so it might be worth persisting. Good luck!

Diane you could open you .ged file in a text editor and search for

'2 DATE 31 jan 2001'

or what ever line it is have a problem with I suspect the problem with the one above is the jan should be JAN
so remember to search with match case on.

Textpad or PSPad will both do the job.

THANK YOU, JANE! Successfully found and edited the incorrect entry (which was from someone else's imported GEDCOM) and it then uploaded onto Genes Reunited. For anyone else trying this, even this successful upload showed an immediate error message, but when I exited the site and went back in, the tree was safely uploaded. Now I just have to wait for all those emailed queries! Thanks again.

Uploading trees to Genes Reunited

I started constructing my tree on Genes reunited before I discovered Family Historian.
However I had no problem downloading a gedcom file generated by Genes Reunited into family Historian, Worked Perfectly.

FH is far easier to use and more versatile than genes reunited so my tree grew rapidly . I then tried to load a file generated by FH to Genes reunited and it seemed to take forever and then stall. I eventualy abandoned the proces and thought that my file must have been corrupted. However
after going to My tree everything appears to be there..I havent checked it all as there are over 600 people in my tree and itws a nightmare to navigate through it all on Genes reunited.
