Unwanted box in Diagram

I have somehow added a wife to an ancestor who is showing (the wife, that is) as a blank box in the relevant Diagram, with 'no Individual corresponding record'. I wish to remove this box, but am having problems. I can hide it, but that appears to only solve it temporarily. As there is no record I cannot delete that way either. In the property box his 'proper' wife is listed, in addition to a second tab showing .
There is, doubtless, a simple way to solve this but I have been unable to find it.

If you look on the focus window, I suspect he has two Families as Spouse go to the second Family and right click on his area and select unlink.
