custom diagram as default not being saved
I have modified the custom 'All relatives' diagram that I always use, and saved it with a new name.
I view an individual, using {View} {Custom Diagram} then right click, choose diagram options, tick save as default and apply (or OK).
I then go to the menu item {Diagram - Settings - Save as default settings}.
My new default diagram will 'Hold' for the current session, but if I close, then re-open FH, my default diagram has revert to the previous custom default.
I am now on 5.0.2.0
Has anyone else come across this, It happens on my winXP SP3 machine and also my W7 64 bit machine

custom diagram as default not being saved
I have reproduced it and reported it to Calico to look at.
To get around the problem, just click on all the tabs before ticking the Save As Default option and then click OK.

I have not been able to get your work-around to work for me Jane.
I have also now updated to 5.0.4 and this problem is still not fixed for me. (Although it is supposed to be)
I have tweaked an older diagram, saved as default, and then saved as custom diagram.
The new diagram stays as the default for the current session. but when I completely close, then reopen, I am back to the old (Custom) default diagram.
Am I doing something wrong? I have never had a problem before.

The fix in V5.0.4 works fine for me an sticks, do you have any sort of anti-malware program which is preventing FH from writing back to the registry.
If you run the program in Admin mode do the settings then stick?

I have just done some further examining, and the fix is sort of working.
What is happening is that the 3rd expression which contains:
(I have inserted extra line breaks on the post to aid readability)
is being wiped.
If I load the saved diagram, it is there. However on the default diagram the expression is blank / Empty, all the other expressions and flags have correctly updated to the new settings.
I also noticed, that despite me saving the diagram as a new custom diagram, when I close the window, I get asked do I want to save changes?
[edit] the diagram name that I use to do the extra save with also vanishes into thin air and is not available.
What is happening is that the 3rd expression which contains:
Code: Select all
=IsTrue((Exists(%INDI.CENS%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS.OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[2]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[2].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[3]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[3].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[4]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[4].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[5]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[5].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[6]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[6].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[7]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[7].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[8]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[8].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[9]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[9].OBJE>%))) or (Exists(%INDI.CENS[10]%)
and Not(Exists(%INDI.CENS[10].OBJE>%))))is being wiped.

I suspect this is Windows Registry related problem.
FH stores all these Diagram Defaults in the Windows Registry and although I can see your long Expression in the Windows Registry something about its length is preventing its retrieval.
[EDIT]
The long Expression is stored OK in the Windows Registry as Regedit displays it OK.
If I shorten the Expression below 512 chractaers it is OK.
Looks like Expressions longer than 512 characters are not retrieved by FH correctly.

That would seem to make sense Mike.
I have only used this particular expression since version 5 (you worked it out for me).
I suppose a work around would be to split it in 2, (but also to report it to Calico Pie).
At least it is not me going GaGa.

Yes, the workaround is to split in two, or always use the Custom Diagram.
It should be reported to family historian support at support@family-historian.co.uk.

Thanks for your help MIke.
I have reported the issue to Calico Pie, and they are investigating.
The split version of the expression works OK, with the minor side effect of showing 2 icons if the individual has more than 5 census entries (which could actually be a bonus)
