Merge file question

Post by ThigWich »

I am using ancestry.com and my goal is to update my tree there and import it into FH. One problem is that the ancestry gedcom contains notes that I don't want. For example, you can't export multimedia from ancestry.com but if a record has a media object, the gedcom will export a note with a http:// link to the object. That note appears in FH in the notes tab of an individual record. Citations also contain blank notes that display in the notes tab of a source record. Is there any way to do a batch discard of these without having to do each record individually?
Thanks

You can probably write a couple of queries or a plugin to strip them. If you go the query route once you have them listed in the query, just select the cells and press delete to remove them.

You could also try the Change Any Fact Tag Plugin on the downloaded GEDCOM.

It can not only identify & delete the Individual Notes but select only those that contain http://.

Similarly it can identify and delete Source Notes, but if these are genuinely 'blank' Notes then they should automatically be deleted by FH when the GEDCOM is next opened.
If the Note contains anything else, such as a single space, then the Plugin can select that specifically.

Thanks! Those suggestions were very helpful and forced me to learn a bit more about this program.[confused]
