Forgetting Dates
Hi,
Since upgrading to version 5, I notice that occasionally when I enter a date (birth, marriage, death, event, whatever)the date enters into the date field okay but when I move onto a different field (such as place), the date that I entered disappears out of the box.
I can't really replicate this problem as it seems to happen quite randomly, but it is quite irritating. Is anybody else experiencing this problem?
Kind Regards,
Craig Mollekin

Never seen that. How do you move from field to field? Tab, Mouse, enter?
The only known issue with dates is tied to a windows date format issue which affected all date entry and was fixed in 5.0.1

I always use the tab option. It occurs so randomly, it is impossible to replicate. I never had this problem with v3 or v4, so it's definitely not me doing it wrong, lol.

I would like to add that I always put the year at the end of the date. I always enter a date as, 03/12/1975 for example and then tab along to the next field. I'm not sure if the date disappears once I've tabbed to the next (location) field or if if it is when I am entering a new fact. I try to notice, but it disappears so randomly, it is difficult to keep track, lol.

I posted a similar problem back in March under 'Date Problem'. It's still occurring. My work round is to enter the date and click on 'Save'.

I wonder if this is possibly related to Auto-Save, (that needed some corrections during Beta Testing for other occasional unwanted behaviour).
Perhaps Auto-Save somehow erases an 'incomplete' Date ?
That might explain its apparently random & only occasional behaviour.
Could users try switching off Auto-Save to see if the problem goes away.

Well, I don't use autosave, so I don't think it's that. [lol] But yeah, maybe you're right - perhaps it's linked to the same problem somehow.

My Auto-Save is switched off. In fact never been switched On.

I can replicate the fault anytime I want so fault not random or occasional.

How do you cause it to happen, Steve? I can't replicate it.

Enter a date in any box in 'Main' tab, change to different tab, back to 'Main' and date has disappeared. Or go to any website back to FH and, again, date has disappeared.Craig Mollekin said:

ALL BEFORE SAVING FILE when date entered.
If I 'Save' file after entering date and do any of the above the date stays put.

Have you Updated to vers 5.0.1?
I have not been able to replicate what you are getting.
However , this (or a similar)fault did exist in certain circumstances on the original release version.
5.0.1 cannot be obtained by using the check for updates on the program, it can only be downloaded from Calico Pies site or through a link on one of the forum threads (I forget which one)

I emailed Calico Pie yesterday and they stated that they weren't aware of the problem and that the problem hadn't been logged. But the problem has now been passed onto the Developers. I looked at the latest beta version, but it doesn't appear to address the problem, which considering Calico Pie weren't aware of the problem, isn't surprising. [grin]

I'll wait until it's an Official release.johnmorrisoniom said:

This date problem isn't a big issue for me due to my love affair with the 'Save' button.
