Family Group Sheets: places with attributes

Post by SabineS » 09 Apr 2012 12:40

Hi,

it looks like I missed saving my reports when upgrading to V5. I reconstructed most of my features, with one exception:

In the case of some attributes, like occupation, the Family Group Sheet shows the date and the occupation itself (like, carpenter), but NOT the place. Same holds true for a self-defined attribute named Status.

In my previous report version, it would look like this:
Occupation 1680 carpenter; Placename
I do, however, not remember if I devised the '; Placename' part myself or if that was part of the installation settings - and if the former, how I did it.

I could, of course, change the FamilyMember Events/Attributes set to List only and manually include a very long list, but even then I don't see a way how to get the place behind the occupation.

So how do I get that back??

TIA

Sabine

It looks like this got lost with the upgrade.

I just deinstalled V5 on my other computer, and begann installing the oldest version I had (2.1.8). The Family Group Sheet report shows what I had till V4, for example:
Occupation 1680 carpenter; Placename

Unless anyone knows a workaround, this means that I will have to downgrade all systems to V4 again, because I need that place name there.

This looks like a fault in FH V5 that was not spotted during Beta Testing.
It needs to be reported to mailto:support@family-historian.co.uk

As a workaround you could copy the Place field to the Address field for these Attributes.
Ensure the Report Options > Contents tab > Addresses option is ticked.

Hi Tatewise,

thank you!

Well, yes, that would be a workaround, which however does not account for the 90k persons in the database which I do not intend to change just because of a bug; also, this would disable the incremental search possibilities for the place names ...

Well ... looks like downgrading ... what a pity; so far I liked the rest of the program.

I ran up V4 with the standard reports, and I can't see the Place against the Occupations in V4 on the Family Group sheet (but stand to be corrected it's been a manic week), the Occupation;Place layout is what used to happen in Family Tree Maker exports because it did not allow you to do both.

I cannot run up FH V4 but the FH Demo V3 Read Only version definitely lists Occupation; Placename in Family Group Sheet Reports.

V4.1.3 looks like this (much of the report is tailor-made, but it should become clear what I meant).

I sent an e-mail to Calico Pie yesterday.
