How to make a box for inputting text in a tab?

Post by wulliam » 02 Sep 2011 15:54

I'm quite happy customising a tab so that there are tick boxes to turn flags on and off.

However, I am failing to manage to create a box which I can type into.
How do I make something like the standard 'Born ... in ....' on the main tab?

While I'm posting, I should probably also ask how I then get that text to appear in a box on a diagram.

Many thanks!

The important thing to remember is that you can only customise Property Box Tabs with genuine GEDCOM Data References recognised by FH.
This is no different to all other features of FH.

Having said that, the most common stumbling block to adding items to tabs is explained below.
In the Customize Property Box window, untick Show most commonly-used items only near bottom left corner.
Then at the top of the Available Items list is (for advanced users).
Select this item and > add to Selected Items and click Edit Custom Item.
Click Help for more advice, and click Options > Text tab > Clone and Edit buttons.
Then add a and Edit and <<Insert the Data Reference.

Thanks tatewise, that's made things a good deal clearer and my diagram is now working as intended! Much appreciated!
